We recognize that we have a responsibility to use our privilege and position as members of Sigma Kappa, the Greek community, and the University of Florida to be allies for marginalized communities, amplify underrepresented voices, combat racism and discrimination, and actively work to dismantle systems of oppression. We want to share some of the steps we are taking to ensure alignment with our words and our actions. Immediate Actions • Appointed a Diversity and Inclusion Chairman • Chapter resource list o We have created a collection of resources including books, videos, articles on a variety of subjects so all women can gain knowledge of chosen subjects. • Consideration of religious and cultural holidays • Fall 2020 programming series o We have been hosting a programming series featuring speakers on topics of race, gender, sexuality, religion, and disabilities. • Created a Diversity and Inclusion Committee • Strengthening relationships with NPHC and MGC chapters Many long-term goals and programming have begun as well to ensure we create a lasting change. We are committed to working toward making our chapter, and the entire Greek community, a welcoming and safe place for all. My hope is that this statement outlines our commitment and will serve as guidance and keep our sisters accountable to work toward our goals.
