Why, so many years later? — Paul Hutchins, Ripley, N.Y. A : The same could be asked about many series that have gotten revivals, but especially in the current climate, known brands that might draw viewers back to certain networks are especially valuable commodi - ties. "Dexter" is one of the most popular shows in Showtime's history, and the network's exec - utives maintain that "a creative take that (is) truly worthy" of that melodrama has been found. Of course, we probably won't know what that is until the new "Dexter" premieres, which is ex - pected to happen next fall if title star Michael C. Hall — who last showed serial killer Dexter Mor - gan going into self-imposed iso- lation in the Pacific Northwest — and his colleagues can begin production as scheduled early in 2021. In interviews since the original show ended in 2013, Hall was careful not to rule out that "Dexter" would ever return ... and now we know why. Q : It was great to see the original "Beauty and the Beast" series in a weekend marathon recently on De - cades. Were there many more episodes beyond the ones that were shown then? — Stephanie Connors, Bellaire, Ohio A : That marathon consisted of most of the 1987-90 CBS show's first two seasons. There was a third one, but it was a bit different since female lead Linda Hamilton had left and was succeeded by Jo Anderson as a police profiler who inevitably crossed paths with "Beast" Vin - cent (played by Ron Perlman). That change and the creative decision to amp up the show's action sequences resulted in lower ratings and eventual can - cellation.
