Students have begun collecting donated books and have collaborated with Centennial High School wood shop teacher, Mr. Beardsley, and student Luis Monroy to build a central bookshelf aimed at increasing literacy awareness in Tehama County. This bookshelf will be placed at Daisy's Ice Cream in Corning and will be stocked with donated books that may be borrowed by all members of the community in order to promote literacy awareness. On Friday, April 26, Americorps members Tanya Renteria, Norma Chavez, Diane Navarro and Angelica Anaya presented Beardsley and Luis Monroy with a certificate of appreciation for participating in the community project. Book donations will be accepted at US Bank and La Corona in Red Bluff as well as at The School Readiness Office in Corning, at 1480 South St. Should you have any questions for the AmeriCorps members, call 824-4111. Antelope celebrates grandparents, with Disney inspired dances The 26th Annual Dance Celebration "Celebrating Disney Style" and Grandparents and Honored Guests Day will be from10-10:45 a.m. on Friday, May 31. Fiddlers start at 9:45. The event will be on the Antelope Elementary School Playground and this is an open invitation for everyone to join us on the Antelope playground for this wonderful annual event! This year we will be celebrating Disney Style. In classroom music, the month of May is always dedicated to the fine arts unit of dance. All students have learned a grade level dance to perform as well as experienced some of the other dances in order to have a better appreciation of the entire event. All 403 Kindergarten through the Fifth grade students will perform. We will enjoy our Antelope Fiddlers playing some Disney tunes as entertainment before the show begins. The Kindergarten will perform a puppet dance to Pinocchio's "I've Got No Strings". First Grade will follow with a slow jig to Winnie the Pooh's "The Wonderful Thing About Tigers. The Second Grade will perform an old-time line dance to Toy Story's "Woody's Roundup" and the Third Grade will dance a cha-cha to Little Mermaid's "Under the Sea". The Fourth Grade will perform many variations of the Charleston to Jungle Books "The Bare Necessities" and the Fifth Grade will dance the Macarena to "The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room". All the Antelope students will sing and add sign language to "The Mickey Mouse Club, Alma Mater. As always the show will end with all guests joining in the audience dance. We will all enjoy dancing the Charleston to Jungle Books, "Wan'na Be Like You".Celebrating Disney Style! Chico Performances field trips From music to theater, Chico Performances' 20 new field trips are now available for teachers to purchase for the 2013-2014 school year. Last year, more than 21,000 students attended the 21 field trips. These field trips not only provide the local youth with rich culture and education, but also inspire kids to rekindle a love for the arts. This year's field trip performances range from daring stunts of Cirque Ziva, to celebrated classics like "Cinderella." Other field trips include "Aladdin Jr." and "Beauty and the Beast" brought to you by local students. In order for all teachers to have equal access to the field trips, orders will be chosen at random in the last week of July. All orders must be mailed in or brought to the University Box Office by July 23 to be included in the lottery. Walk-ups and phone calls will not be accepted during this time, but will be accepted after Aug. 5. Seats to the 50minute educational performances are available for $5 each. She was there to receive college logo T-shirts members had collected. She explained the T-shirt project is part of the Expect More Tehama program. Their goal is to collect enough T-shirts so each graduating 8th grade student will have one. The object is to inspire students to start thinking about college and perhaps motivate them to research the college or university on their shirt. If you wish to donate a new T-shirt, you may drop it off at the Department of Education on Lincoln Street or The Job Training Center on Main Street.
