GAMMA PHI BETA 3 C hange is everywhere! These unprecedented times have heightened my appreciation for our true and constant sisterhood. While the world seems to be turned upside down, I have relied on our sisters to guide me. The women of Alpha Delta have not faltered; we are strong and able to weather this challenging year because we are Founded on a Rock. Navigating College Life Amid the Pandemic In mid-March, we dispersed back to our hometowns across the country, which made our August reunion that much sweeter. While our sisters were at home, our studies took first priority, earning the chapter a GPA of 3.7, which is above the all-sorority average for Mizzou. We were swept up in a joyful atmosphere as we began Recruitment School for an all- virtual recruitment. Our "Zoom Queens," Membership Vice President Lauren Roither '18 and Recruitment Chairwoman Natalie Sales '18, led the chapter as we recruited nearly 70 downright dynamic new members, including 13 legacies. WOW! Throughout recruitment, safety of our members was the number one priority. We utilized the nearly 30,000 square feet in our luxurious pink palace to have our members comfortably socially distanced during Zoom recruitment. Building Stronger Women Bid Day 2020 was an event no one is soon likely to forget. We chose to honor our first responders with our Bid Day theme of Get Phired Up. The theme held a special connection to us as Gamma Phi Beta members given that firefighting is a predominantly male profession. Celebrating the courageous women that take on the daunting role of a firefighter and actively challenge gender stereotypes seemed the perfect fit for our philanthropic goal of strong women, building strong girls. The Columbia Fire Department enjoyed our theme as well, and they even brought the fire truck to the chapter house for Bid Day! We then donated our banner, made by Ali Phelps '19 and Georgia Basis '19, to the Columbia Fire Department. Sisters Find New Ways to Stay Connected Since our world turned virtual due to COVID-19, our social media has blossomed. Public Relations Vice President Sydney Marino '18 and Social Media Chairwoman Mia Uetrecht '19 have kept the chapter connected through their efforts with the chapter's Instagram and Facebook. They have worked tirelessly to keep Gamma Phi at the center of our hearts in creative ways, whether they are introducing us to our new members through story highlights or showcasing a bid day throwback from 1982. They constantly give the chapter something to look forward to. Brighter Days Ahead I know I'm not alone in saying we look forward to resuming in-person events and activities. Together, Alpha Delta is stronger than ever. We are not-so-patiently waiting to be reunited with all of our sisters for Alpha Delta's 100th anniversary in 2021. See you all soon!
