The United States is currently still suffering the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and Alpha Mu has adopted novel rules to keep the fraternity house as safe as possible. With guidance from the university, we have been fortunate to avoid some of the problems in other fraternities. The Alumni Corporation Board is actively monitoring the ongoing situation. The fiscal health of the fraternity is good, and many brothers generously contributed to a fund to help defray the unexpected costs caused by the pandemic. Thank you to all who contributed to this fund. Once again our recruitment efforts were successful and a good class of men was signed. As always, the recruitment chairmen would appreciate any recommendations from the alumni. I was disappointed that the tailgate had to be canceled this fall, but I look forward to being able to attend next fall. In the meantime, stay safe. Fraternally, Ted Hovda '73 Alumni Corporation Board President tshovda@comm1net.net D uring the past several months, many of our generous alumni provided gifts to our emergency financial aid initiative, which provided scholarships to undergraduate members who have realized financial difficulties during the current COVID-19 pandemic. As determined by the university financial aid office, eight undergraduate members qualified for this assistance. Through your generosity, each of these members was awarded $1,576. Here are their heartfelt thank-you messages: "Thank you alumni for your generous gift! Finding money for school has been a difficult task recently with everything going on and this gift is a huge relief for my family and helps settle a lot of stress that has occurred in these last couple months!" "The undergraduate members thank you for your continued support and involvement in Theta Chi. I cannot thank you enough for making my life easier by lessening my financial burden. Your support has allowed me to focus more heavily on my studies and my involvement within the chapter." "I'm honored to have received the scholarship. This financial burden being lifted will be very beneficial in helping my studies this semester. Thank you for your continued generosity to the chapter. This award was a very much needed emotional and financial relief in these unfortunate circumstances." "I want to thank you for your very generous donations to the emergency financial aid program. Your donations have helped me tremendously by allowing me to continue my academic career at Iowa State University and as a member of Theta Chi Fraternity with less of a financial stress and burden." "I want to thank you for the opportunity given to me when applying for this scholarship. I hope you know that your generosity does not go unappreciated. The financial relief that was awarded to me will help me to focus more on my studies during this stressful time. I cannot thank you enough!" "I would like to extend a very sincere thank-you on behalf of myself along with my family. This emergency funding has allowed me to continue receiving a world-class education here at Iowa State University. This fraternity has meant a lot to me, and it brings me great pleasure that this experience has been aided by brothers like yourselves." "This financial aid has helped me tremendously here at Iowa State. Instead of worrying about how much I will need to earn in order to pay for my tuition, I am able to focus on my studies thanks to the generous alumni who have been part of Theta Chi." "Thank you for all you do, especially donating to the COVID-19 relief fund. For me, this money will go toward housing and make this semester much more manageable financially."
