Hall made a number of staffing changes between the pro- gram's freshman and sopho- more rounds, and they appear to have worked. It also didn't hurt that she won the Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding informative talk show host for the first season, and in an- nouncing the Season 3 pickup, the chief of the ABC Entertain- ment division responsible for the show inferred that it will be around for "years to come." Q : Was there a "Smokey and the Bandit" TV se- ries? — Mike Faulkner, Fair Oaks, Calif. A : Sort of. After two theatri- cal sequels to the original 1977 Burt Reynolds movie hit, four "Bandit" TV movies were made for a syndicated "Action Pack" that also included "Her- cules" and (also spun off from a feature film) "Midnight Run" as elements. The markets that carried the package included such major cities as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. The "Bandit" films were meant to be prequels to the Reynolds projects, with daytime-serial veteran Brian Bloom ("As the World Turns") playing a younger incarnation of the fast-driving title charac- ter. The overall "Action Pack" concept lasted several more years than "Bandit's" participa- tion, since it left the lineup af- ter that quartet of stories. The concept appears to be headed for another TV shot, though, since Seth MacFarlane and Danny McBride recently an- nounced that they will execu- tive-produce a "Smokey and the Bandit" series. Q : I always felt bad that Erinn Hayes left "Kevin Can Wait" the way she did. Has she done any acting since? — Kerry Brown, via e-mail A : She actually has been doing OK professionally. Seen lately on the Netflix satire "Medical Police" — a spinoff of "Childrens Hospital," on which she also co-starred — and she also appeared in an episode of the recently ended HBO anthology "Room 104." Additionally, Hayes was in the movie "Bill & Ted Face the Music," and those are just a few of the credits she's had since she was dismissed from CBS' "Kevin" for "creative rea- sons" that entailed killing off her character of wife, mother and school nurse Donna.
