3 Sigma Kappa Living with Heart While Pushing Through the Pandemic Sigma Kappa House Corporation Board Keeps Safety First at Delta Upsilon T hroughout the summer and into the fall, the Sigma Kappa House Corporation Board's focus has been on the health, safety, and welfare of our members and staff through physical improvements, as well as creating policies and procedures. All decisions have been made following the guidance of the CDC, Greene County Health Department, MJ Sorority, Sigma Kappa National Headquarters, and Missouri State University and in collaboration with our National Housing Advisor, chapter Advisory Board supervisor, chapter Executive Board members, and house director. We have developed a wonderful team of caring, thoughtful individuals who work very well together and have worked very hard to ensure safety for all in these uncertain times. A letter outlining our efforts and expectations was sent to all members who moved into the house by chapter President Olivia Hulshof '18. A letter from the House Corporation Board also went to all the parents of our collegians. It's important to the House Corporation Board to be transparent with you, our loyal alumnae, with how we're navigating this unique academic year. Below are excerpts (and additions) from the House Corporation Board letter. While we can anticipate and have created plans for the what-ifs, we know that we should expect the unexpected. Please know that we have contingency plans in place should a resident or staff member become COVID-19 positive. For more years than we can calculate, House Corporation Board members have believed in the sisterhood of Sigma Kappa. Our hope is that every collegian and staff member feels the same and will conduct themselves and make healthy and safe decisions. Their decisions may affect their sisters, family, and others on campus and in the Springfield community. This is especially important for those living together in the chapter house. If we all Live with Heart and make decisions from our hearts, we will all make it through these uncertain times together. Should you have any questions, please reach out to me via email. On behalf of the Sigma Kappa House Corporation Board, I wish you and yours good health and hope to see you soon once it's safe to gather together again. Loyally, Traci Sooter '81 Sigma Kappa House Corporation Board President tsooter@drury.edu • Rigorous cleaning protocols for the chapter house are in place. • Free-standing hand sanitizing stations are at every entry door, in the common areas, and the dining room. • Room configurations on all floors are per Health Department guidelines for proper COVID-19 physical distancing. • A no guest/out-of-house member policy is in place to reduce the risk of possible infection. • Common areas and dining area furniture are configured per CDC/Health Department recommendations for proper COVID physical distancing. • Protective Plexiglas dividers are on all dining tables. • We will follow social distancing protocols and PPE recommendations from the CDC, local, and state authorities. Springfield is currently under a mandatory mask order. You can find more information from the City of Springfield at springfieldmo.gov. • During the duration of the Springfield mask order, we are asking that all residents and staff wear a mask in the common areas on the first floor. • Meals in the chapter house will be plated by appropriately protected kitchen staff. There will be NO buffet. • If any student tests positive for COVID-19, all live-in members will be notified immediately via their GroupMe app. All parents will be notified through the OmegaFi system. • Parents of COVID-19 positive students will be called directly. We will work with them to make the best decisions possible for the health and safety of their daughter. • We highly recommended that residents wear masks in all common areas on all floors for the first two weeks they were living in the house. We feel that once this time period has past and if the residents are acting responsibly outside of the house, there will not be a need to wear masks on the residential floors. • However, masks will still be required, with the hope of lifting this requirement as soon as possible, on the first floor. This is to protect our staff, as well as the residents. • Members have been asked to bring their own PPE and sanitizing wipes to wipe down commonly touched areas. Some of the policies and procedures we have implemented for the coming year are as follows:
