Delta Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Kappa at Missouri State University Fall 2020 A s we began the fall semester, sisters spent time reflecting on the whirlwind of the spring semester. The semester was off to a great start but quickly cut short. January was calm, yet filled with much anticipation as our new executive council took over. Our new executive officers attended the Regional Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas, and left excited about the impact they could have on the chapter. February was extra sweet with our annual Crush Dance. Tara Clement '18 did an amazing job planning her first event as social chairwoman. The Chick-fil-A nuggets and buffalo dip were a huge hit! To close out the night she awarded superlatives and we loved electing our sisters for each unique award. In early March, we received awards for Outstanding Membership Development, Most Improved GPA, and Most Panhellenic Association Philanthropic Donations. Halley Parmale '16 received the Outstanding Panhellenic Officer Award for her time spent on council. We couldn't be prouder of Halley and the work she did for PHA. Shortly after bringing home the awards, we left for spring break. During break, we were notified of the online transition, and what did the Delta Upsilon members do? We made the best out of it! By hosting Zoom check-in meetings and other virtual events, we kept in touch throughout the duration of online courses. I applaud every sister who stuck with us through the ups and downs. Sigma Kappa loyalty is unmatched to say the least. Now that we are all back together again, it is clear that time and distance are no match for our friendships. We picked up where we left off and started creating more memories without hesitation. Between recruitment and continuous open bidding, we added 66 women into our fabulous sisterhood at the conclusion of recruitment. Each woman brings something that Delta Upsilon needs and we were ecstatic to welcome them to our sisterhood. Having such a fantastic recruitment wouldn't have been possible without the hard work of Vice President of Membership Claire Harter '17 and Membership Assistant Maysun Brady '17. They worked diligently to transition recruitment into a completely virtual format. There are not enough positive words to say about these women and their dedication to Sigma Kappa. More recently, Traci Sooter '81 and a multitude of other alumnae presented Sheryl Wallace Jones, University of Kansas '79, with The Ernestine Duncan Collins Pearl Court Award as several sisters cheered her on. This national award recognizes alumnae who are, and have been, the backbone of our chapters. It was a true honor to experience how strong the Sigma Kappa sisterhood remains throughout generations. Overall, it has been a joy to see the women of Delta Upsilon adapt to the changes presented to them. With their strength and perseverance, there is no doubt that we will find the light at the end of the tunnel.
