4A Daily News – Wednesday, May 15, 2013 Commerce business&enterprise 4th Annual Crawdad Festival The Red Bluff Chamber of Commerce is putting on a party Mardi Gras style at the 4th Annual Crawdad Festival. The Tehama District Fairground will transform into a wonderland of Cajun food, music and fun June 7-9. Why is it bigger and better? The R Wild Horse Ranch approached the Red Bluff Chamber to take over the operation of the growing Red Bluff Crawdad Festival. So, the Chamber Board has taken over and is building on this great event. There will be more vendors, music, crawdads and more activities for kids and families to participate in this year. The chamber is looking for vendors — call Jessie Woods at the Gold Exchange, 528-8000 — volunteers and sponsors for this year's event. It's a great opportunity to get involved in your community and have a great time. Friday is Family Night 5-9 p.m. and has discounted tickets, followed by two more full days — Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. — of crawdad eating contests, special Zydeco music, a car show on Sunday and lots of great Cajun Fun all three days. A special Local Talent Spotlight stage will be at the festival this year to display local bands. *** The Red Bluff-Tehama County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours Mixer will be hosted 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at Wilcox Oaks Golf Club. Hospital parent company noted in national Top 15 Prime Healthcare Services, the parent company of Shasta Regional Medical Center, was recognized last week as one of the "15 Top Health Systems" in the nation by Truven Health Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters) based on quality of care, efficiency and patient satisfaction. This is the third time in five years that Prime Healthcare has earned the national distinction. Prime Healthcare was the only for profit health system recognized in the nation. According to Truven Health, compared to its peers, Prime Healthcare saved more lives, caused fewer patient complications, followed industry-recommended standards of care more closely, made fewer patient safety errors, released patients half a day sooner and scored better on overall patient satisfaction. This annual, quantitative study uses objective, independent research and public data sources. Health systems do not apply, and winners do not pay to market their award. "Shasta Regional is proud to represent Prime Healthcare in this prestigious honor. It is through the dedication and commit- ment to excellence of every doctor, nurse and staff member who make this honor possible," said Randall Hempling, CEO of Shasta Regional Medical Center. Included in the study were 328 health systems and 2,254 hospitals. The winning systems experienced 3.4 percent fewer deaths than non-winning peer-group hospitals, lower 30-day mortality rates, 3 percent fewer complications, a median average length of stay of 4.49 days, over half a day shorter than their peers' median of 5.06 days, and 7 percent fewer adverse patient safety events than expected, given the case mix of the particular hospital, and had better adherence to core measures of care than their peers. "This unbiased study shows that Prime Healthcare is committed to providing the best quality of care to its patients in a cost-effective manner," said Prem Reddy, MD, FACC, FCCP, Chairman, President and CEO of Prime Healthcare Services. The published study is based on Medicare data from 2010 and 2011 and takes into consideration 12 patient care metrics. CARE TO COMMENT? Biz Brief? Stock market rises back into record territory NEW YORK (AP) — The stock market marched back into record territory as investors seized on the latest encouraging news about the economy. On Tuesday, it was a report on the health of small businesses. Small business owners were slightly more optimistic in April, according to a survey by the National Federation of Independent Business. That helped push the Russell 2000, an index of small-company stocks, up 1.3 percent. The Russell index is 16.1 percent higher since the Wall Street start of the year, and is up more than the Standard & Poor's 500 index, which includes larger, global companies. Small stocks are doing well partly because they are more focused on the U.S., which is recovering, and don't get as much revenue from recessionplagued Europe as larger companies do. The advance in smallcompany stocks is another sign of how optimistic investors have become.
