HARBORING SUCCESS How Delta Chi Helped Shape Todd Edmonds '16 D uring the summer before his freshman year, Todd Edmonds '16 was tricked by his childhood friends into going to a Delta Tau Delta recruitment event. He thought they were simply going to a cool college party, but they ended up staying the night and attending a few more recruitment events. "I was originally not planning to join when they gave up trying to convince me and just let me leave with a bid," Todd said. "Long story short, I eventually signed the bid and joined the brotherhood with some convincing." Todd will be forever grateful that he joined Delta Chi Chapter as some of his best friends and closest mentors came from the fraternity. "Delta Chi provided me with so many great opportunities," Todd said. "It gave me a platform and support system, which allowed me to go after whatever I wanted." Similarly, he was able to offer his support to the brotherhood through his involvement in the Interfraternity Council. Todd was elected as secretary and eventually president of the IFC, following in the footsteps of one of his mentors, Vaughn Vennerberg '76. "We had just made a resurgence after a large withdrawal of membership," Todd said. "My pledge brothers made a tremendous push for change and building up a fraternity we would be proud to leave behind." Todd was succeeded in presidency by Mason Strom '16, creating one of the few back-to-back terms for any chapter. As a collegian, Todd was known for stirring up debate during chapter meetings. "I tried my best to ensure the chapter thought every decision through thoroughly," Todd said. "I lived for debate in the house. I wanted brothers to disagree. I wanted conversations to take place. All of this because I wanted us to arrive at the best solution." Brothers were looking to improve Delta Chi's standing on campus, and that didn't happen through frivolous decisions and haphazard effort. "Very rarely did our first decision turn out to be our best," Todd said. "Doing something at half effort never paid off." Today, Todd has been involved in many debates and conversations surrounding two challenges our country is facing: COVID-19 and systemic racism. "We as humanity, a university, and as a fraternity owe it to ourselves to help the community strive to be better than those that came before us and better for those who come after," Todd said. "To say times are different now isn't good enough. The rights we have as humans are those of common respect and utmost responsibility for our actions." He encourages everyone to do good research and put in the time and effort to educate themselves on these issues. "We must support causes that push us further in society," Todd said. "Have conversations and ask the tough questions. This helps lead to the best solutions." Todd is someone who puts in the extra effort and utilizes all the resources presented to him. As a junior, he would sit in House Mom Deb's room considering different life outcomes and the paths it would take to get there. This is when he realized he wanted to go work on Wall Street. "Deb helped me out and put me in contact with Oklahoma State alumni who were in the field," Todd said. "After that it was off to the races!" Todd was able to achieve his goal and is currently an exotic derivatives trader for Goldman Sachs. Todd lives in New York City with his wife and can be reached at toddjedmonds@gmail.com. Craig A.
