What it does is check on the welfare of you every day. It can be done by phone, text, email or through a Facebook group. During this virus pandemic, it's more important to check on our seniors. We all know someone who has fallen and could not get up for some reason and laid there for days. This will hopefully eliminate that from happening. If you would like to be part of a Phone Tree Calling, Texting or Email list please sign on at the Senior Center. If you go to Facebook Quartzsite Phone Tree group and ask to join you will be asked a few questions and then you will check in every day before 10am so we know you are ok. You can also read more about it on Facebook or call 480-286-8373. IF you need help with fi nancial planning and advise on your fi nances, they have amazing programs that can help you. As a member or associate mem- ber, you are a part of a regional group that brings people together to do good in their churches, commu- nities and beyond. They can connect you to special member programs and resources that can help you live generously. It began at Covenant Luther Church when I was asked to be- come an Associate Member of Thri- vent. Through my membership and that of my husband Gene, we were able to begin doing Thrivent Action Teams to help our church and to pass it forward to the community. Many of our church members also were members and others joined as they found out the amazing dollars that were available to help in pass- ing it forward. We have been busy applying for new Action Team Projects again as fall has returned and our folks are re- turning to Quartzsite for the season. These projects are Action Teams of friends and local folks who want to make difference here in Quartzsite. These projects have been approved and will be helping in many differ- ent ways and for many different things in the next few months. We have received approval for each of the following and would like to share some of what will be done over the next few months: The local museum will be able to install a new hot water system for their public restroom and refurbish the antique sink from the Hagland House. Last year, they were able to purchase and install a new toilet. Our local bookstore owner, Joanne Winer, will be able to purchase all the materials needed to fi nish the Hero Garden monuments to honor our fi rst responders. Blessing Bags for veterans and homeless men have been made by Covenant Lutheran's quilting group out of recycled jeans and items have been purchased and fi lled in these beautiful bags ready to be distrib- uted in November. A second set of Blessing Bags have been donated and we are in the pro- cess of receiving donations for items to fi ll them for homeless women. Future projects will be to help with Wreaths Across America so that dur- ing the Christmas Season a wreath will be placed on every deceased vet- eran at Hi Jolly Cemetery. Sewing Christmas Stockings and fi lling them with goodies for the se- niors at the apartments will also be a holiday project at Covenant Lu- theran Church. We are proud to be a part of the community and even prouder of all of you who have stepped up and done an Action Team Project. We would love to see more of these posts to let the community know what we have done to help Quartzsite. Maggie Ross Thrivent Action Team updates William (Bill) Smith William (Bill) Smith, 70, passed away this past summer in August. Bill was a very popular resident and vendor in Quartzsite for the past 20 plus years. His store, across from the Main Post Offi ce was very busy with out of town visitors and local residents. He was always extremely helpful with his customers. Always ready to help them choose the right tool or wire for any project. His wife of 51 years, Rosemary, is cur- rently running the store along with their son, John. Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew him. REST IN PEACE, BILL
