I am proud to say that we have been first in grades and accredited with distinction by the University of Missouri for the past two semesters. Our chapter has been working together the past few months to create and implement a diversity, equity, and inclusion action plan that can be viewed at https://tinyurl.com/y2xsm677. Virtual recruitment over Zoom was a huge success. We are so proud of Chief Recruitment Officer Maddie Brownfield '17 and Recruitment Director Addie Zimmer '17 for leading us through this completely uncharted territory. You can watch our open house video at https://tinyurl.com/ya5yrf95. Our first Zoom parties were held during the philanthropy round, which is how the rest of recruitment continued. While the planning and organization took a lot of work this year, recruitment generally felt more relaxed through Zoom. Active members stayed in their rooms while talking with potential new members, and there were plenty of breaks throughout the day. Recruitment brought us a wonderful new member class with 67 young women who were initiated through Zoom on September 19. We have implemented extra precautions at the chapter house this semester, including requiring masks and a no-guest policy. Out-of-house members are still welcome to come to the house. Chapter operations are very different this semester. All chapter meetings will be held through Zoom, and there are no socials. This is to follow guidelines on social gathering limits enforced by both Headquarters and Mizzou. Our officers have had to think creatively to plan socially distanced sisterhood events on the lawn at the house, and they have all been successful! Bid Day consisted of colorful lawn decorations that new members and Bid Day Buddies could come take pictures with for a designated amount of time. We allowed 10 members on the lawn at a time. We also held a record painting event where members came in shifts and sat on the lawn painting records. All of the I-Week events were a fun, safe way for active members to get to know our new members. These included canvas painting, dinner and trivia, and an early morning breakfast after the virtual Senior Sunrise through Zoom. Throughout the anxiety and stress of the pandemic, Alpha Mu has stood strong and flexibly adapted to the rapidly changing circumstances. It is truly a test of our sisterhood, and we are so lucky to have one another to lean on right now.
