By Salome High Journalism Staff This year's shortened football sea- son will only be eight games. At this point, general admission will not be allowed at any sporting events. Keep an eye on offi cial channels for any changes. The Frogs' October games are on the 2nd against May- er, the 9th against Desert Heights, the 23rd against Lincoln Prep, and the 30th against Anthem Prep. In talking with Coach McCarty about the unique season, he said that he's grateful for the added time that they've had to develop their new players, and it seems he's ready to go out and prove any nay- sayers wrong who are un- derestimating the Fighting Frogs! Senior, Vidal "Bear" Bollas expressed mixed feel- ings about his upcoming last season saying, "I love playing football," and that he's already feeling sad about the prospect of it all being over. Fellow player Miguel Navarro com- mented on the big picture saying, "We have the speed and we have the heart… it's up to us to think and push ourselves knowing this season can be a good season." Off the fi eld and on to the court, the volleyball season has also been altered. Although, they will have a lot more games than the football team. The girls' fi rst game is on the 1st against North Phoenix Prep. Their other October games are on the 6th, 8th, 9th, 13th, 16th, 20th, 27th, and 30th. They will be against Baghdad, Cicero, Mohave ALC, An- telope, Wickenburg, NVCA, again against Antelope, and fi nally An- them Prep respectively. Refl ecting on her senior year of volleyball, Ki- ara Sanchez Meza expressed how diffi cult but necessary the COVID precautions have been in practices. With that positive Frog attitude, she said, "There really isn't anything to do but to adapt and move forward." While junior Lizbeth Mariscal Rojas has next year to look forward to she said, "I was very excited about vol- leyball not being canceled after all because I was looking forward to playing again… We are very lucky to have a season this year! Over in the classroom, we have two new faces in front of the white- boards this year. Salome High School has a new history teacher with Mr. Pugliese, and a new Eng- lish teacher, Ms. Mathena. Both teachers have a full schedule with multiple classes of Government, US History, World History, and Eng- lish 9-11 respectively. "She seems like a very caring and willing per- son," said Erica Yanez in regards to Ms. Mathena, "When I enter her classroom in the morning she always greets us with a cheerful personality. She starts the day with positive energy. I'm really looking forward to having this class this year." And Lizeth Mariscal Rojas had this to say about Mr. Pugliese, "He's always very excited to start his class. Mr. Pugliese encourages us to speak more in his class and get out of our comfort zone. He is very patient with us in anything we have trouble with… he seems like a very understanding person." Seniors and families in our com- munity have trouble paying their bills every month. So they cut back on buying healthy food so they can have electricity and a roof over their head. But you made it pos- sible for them to have it all! Healthy food, electricity and a roof over their head. You donated to the food bank and kept us open! So Thank You!
