T his August, Georgia Alpha's House Director, Pat Brown (Ms. Pat), participated in her seventh move-in with the chapter alongside Director Housing Izze Canales '18. Although move-in day looked very different than in the past, the process went very smoothly. "There were parents and young women all over the house with masks on and keeping proper space between each other," Ms. Pat said. To comply with CDC guidelines, only four residents moved in every three hours over the course of two days – starting at 6:00 a.m. on August 14 and ending at 10:00 p.m. August 15. Beds have been moved out of some bedrooms to provide proper distancing and one bedroom has been converted into a "quarantine room". Sadly, the annual move-in cookout was canceled, but these are the necessary sacrifices to ensure a safe environment for our members in the house. "It was definitely disheartening to have our time cut short in the house last semester," Izze said. Izze partners with Ms. Pat to ensure house operations run smoothly. Izze says she rises to any occasion – including enforcing masks and new move-in rules to ensure a safe and smooth transition into the fall semester. "I am so proud of everyone's efforts during move-in and proud of the decisions we have made for everyone's health and safety." As Ms. Pat and Izze reflect on moving into the chapter house, both women are excited for the coming renovations. For Izze, the highlight of these additions will be the new chapter room. "The living room has always been so crowded given our numbers, so I look forward to a space that can accommodate all of us and for the camaraderie that everyone brings to chapter meetings on Mondays." Ms. Pat looks forward to the additional storage space and improved functionality in the house. "Every Monday, the young women move all the furniture out of the living room to set up chairs, and then they have to move it all back. It is extra wear and tear on the furniture and is awfully heavy." Ms. Pat loves running the Georgia Alpha house and living with the Pi Phi sisterhood – and as always, the chapter members adore Ms. Pat. She and Izze look forward to maintaining the members' health and safety and making sure all the in-house sisters still have a blast and create wonderful memories at 886 S. Milledge. "We will make the best of the situation we have been handed, and that is for certain!" Izze said. Making the Most of 2020 How Pi Phi's House Director and Director Housing Handled Fall Move-In
