P I B E T A P H I | U N I V E R S I T Y O F G E O R G I A | F A L L 2 0 2 0 Memories on Milledge Linking Georgia Alpha Pi Phis I t's the beginning of a new fall semester at the University of Georgia, marked by a joyous return of our Georgia Alpha members to 886 South Milledge Ave. It's no surprise this semester looks drastically different due to the new challenges brought about by COVID-19. Despite those challenges, our members are minding their "Ms and Ds" — masks and distancing — and enjoying their return to Athens. Recruitment was its own unique challenge with all rounds held virtually — just like most of our interactions at this point. And it worked! With a quota of 76 (based on 1,880 Potential New Members), 88 New Members chose Pi Phi — a great tribute to the sisters and the dedicated Alumnae Advisory Committee (AAC) members who navigated this unique circumstance and still found success! This remarkable success and the new considerations this pandemic bring even more emphasis to the need for new and reconfigured space in the house. Our members give of themselves to improve our sisterhood, and we can give back by providing a premier housing experience in return. Reaching our fundraising goals is ever more urgent. We encourage every sister to make a gift or pledge if you have not already. Gifts and pledges can be distributed over five years and are entirely tax deductible. Like many others, we each have established a recurring gift that continues over five years that fulfills our personal goals. You may consider joining us and making a recurring gift, as commitments like these make a huge difference as we strive to create a refreshed and welcoming environment for all of our angels. No matter how you decide to make your gift, we hope you will do just that – give back to make a difference on the future of this chapter! Construction is set to begin in May 2021 — a few short months from now. In addition, we know that the current environment makes sustaining the future of our chapter and our chapter's finances that much more important. We must all step up and support this effort that will make a daily difference in the lives of the active members and increase our own pride in a goal met, exceeded and completed in true Pi Beta Phi fashion. Please join the group of donor angels who pledged to help make our Georgia Alpha house warm, inviting and welcoming for decades to come! We continue to be honored to lead the campaign on your behalf and welcome your questions, comments, gifts and pledges. We hope to hear from you soon with news of your support! Pi Phi blessings to you all — and Go Dawgs! Aidan Bradely '19 As an out-of-state student who knew nobody at UGA, I was nervous going through recruitment. When I arrived at Pi Beta Phi, I was met with kind, smiling faces from all over the country who made me feel comfortable and at ease. I had liked Pi Phi from the beginning, but I really solidified my feelings at Preference Round. I remember standing there, seeing such a diverse room of people sharing genuine laughs. The level of friendship they had with each other, the familiarity — it was something I had always wanted to be a part of. My now-grand big was standing by me at one point and I had never felt such warmth and kindness from a stranger. That pref experience was precisely what the rest of the year felt like in Pi Phi: a dream. Constantly sharing belly laughs, supporting each other and experiencing the sincerest of friendships. I feel so lucky to be a Pi Beta Phi. Kristin Huffstutler '18 I chose Pi Phi sitting on the floor of Tate that day after Preference Rounds because I knew the girls there wanted the authentic and genuine version of me. Almost two years later, I can't imagine life without the nights I've spent snuggling in friends' beds, or the times I've come home from a long day to see smiling faces on the futon in the dayroom. I love Pi Phi because it's given me not just friends but a family — a family I can't wait to come home to! Ana Balthazar '17 I chose Pi Phi because everyone I talked to was extremely genuine. I also felt it was a place where diversity was celebrated, which was very important to me as an immigrant. W e asked a member from each class to share with us why they chose Pi Phi when going through recruitment. Each woman finds something unique in Pi Phi that they love, and we can't wait for the member class of 2020 to find their favorite things too.
