BY GEORGE DICKIE It's not an overstatement to say that Johnny Carson was and still is the standard by which all other late night hosts are measured. Quick on his feet, self- deprecating and ever-likable, the host of NBC's "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" from 1962-92 was all about making his guests look good. Whether it was Robin Williams, Burt Reynolds, Heeere's Johnny ... and where to watch him Johnny Carson the Amazing Kreskin or a hog farmer from the Midwest, he made the star feel like a regular guy and the regular guy feel like a star. And no matter how good or bad his monologue was, viewers still tuned in because they liked him. He was also an impresario when it came to up-and- coming comedians. If Johnny gave you the "OK" sign or called you ovvver to the couch after your routine, your future was bright. Comics from Jerry Seinfeld and Paul Reiser to Drew Carey and Jeff Foxworthy all talk with reverence about their Johnny moment. "Monsterland" Nathan Ballingrud's "North American Lake Monsters" served as the inspiration for this anthology series from creator, writer and executive producer Mary Laws ("Succession," "Preacher"), about broken people driven to desperate acts by encounters with mermaids, fallen angels and other strange beasts. Kaitlyn Dever, Jonathan Tucker, Taylor Schilling, Hamish Linklater and Adria Arjona are among the players. (ORIGINAL) "I'm Dying Up Here" William Knoedelseder's bestselling novel served as the basis for this 2017-2019 Showtime dramedy that explores the stand-up comedy scene in 1970s Los Angeles through the experiences of young comics at a West Hollywood club called Goldie's. Melissa Leo, Ari Graynor, Michael Angarano, Clark Duke and real-life comics Erik Griffin and Andrew Santino head the cast. Season 1 streams here. "Movie: Enola Holmes" Millie Bobby Brown ("Stranger Things") stars as the title character in this adventure movie about the teenage sister of Sherlock Holmes, who gets caught up in a mystery involving a young runaway while she herself is on the run from a life she abhors and searches for her missing mother. Henry Cavill and Sam Claflin are also in the cast. (ORIGINAL) "Secret Society of Second- Born Royals" (Available now, Disney+) A rebellious princess is stunned to learn that she has superpowers and belongs to a secret society with a longstanding tradition of covertly keeping the peace throughout the kingdom.
