Esperanza Ruvalcaba has opened "La Esperanza Market" at 7866 Highway 99E in Los Molinos, directly across from the Post Office. The Market offers Mexican breads, Piñata's, Phone Cards, candy and more. The market also offers Esperanza's own line of hand crafted purses and jewelry. The market hopes to supply some of the needs of those customers no longer served by the now closed May Madness Car Show results La Competidora Panaderia. Esperanza is a lifetime local originally from Gerber, now living in Los Moli- nos. All are welcome to this bi-lingual market. Restaurant wins gold medals for pies Shari's Cafe & Pies, which has a location in Red Bluff, proudly accepted four gold medals at the 2013 National Pie Championships in Orlando, Fla. in April. Amateur pie makers, professional bakers and chefs and commercial pie companies from around the country and Canada have been competing at the NPC since 1995. Shari's took home the medal for four pies, all in the Premium Category, S'Mores Galore, Fresh Blueberry Lemon Sour Cream, Tropical Coconut Cream and Banana Cream Dream. "Shari's has a history of making the best pies in the Northwest," said Kevin Bechtel, sr. vice president of Menu Development. "And our guests have always recognized the quality of our pies. We always knew that our pies could compete with the best in the country. But these awards validate that we can compete...and win." This was Shari's third trip to Orlando in which it brought home the gold. There were lots of spectators both for the "show & shine" and for the Burn outs. Being the last year for this event, participants put on quite a show. But in the end Eric Hammond of All Star Auto Recycling went away with the prize for first place. This year we added activities kid's activities and they enjoyed the Monster Truck Bounce House, games, face painting and lots of prizes. • Second Chance Pet Rescue, who takes care of the dogs at the Corning Animal Shelter on Rawson Rd, is having a yard sale from 8-4 Saturday, May 18, in Corning at 660 Solano St, New Life Assembly parking lot. All proceeds are for the care and comfort of the dogs housed at the Corning Animal Shelter with a big portion going toward new toys and dog houses. We need saleable donations, so start cleaning out those closets and garages! They can pick up your items ahead of time or you can bring them by 7:45 a.m. the day of the sale.
