Young says Class 6A appears to be as
competitive as ever heading into 2020,
especially in the rugged 6A-West.
"I think the level of football in 6A is
really improving," he said. "Obviously
we've added some very good football
teams."
Van Buren (6-5) drops from 7A-West
to the 6A-West, while Little Rock
Parkview (4-6), which features several
potential Division I athletes, moves up
from Class 5A.
Benton (9-4) rebounded from an 0-3
start to advance to the Class 6A title
game, while Lake Hamilton (9-3) and
Siloam Springs (5-7) both advanced
to the second round of the playoffs.
Russellville (2-8) and Mountain Home
(0-10) complete the conference.
"Parkview has four kids offered by
SEC schools, I'm not sure I've seen that
before," Young said. "Benton's had a lot
of success. They've been in the finals
two straight years. Lake Hamilton is
very talented. Siloam Springs is really
improved and gave us all we wanted. I
think there's a lot of teams that can have
success this year. You're going to have to
be ready to play every Friday night."
Greenwood features all-state running
back Hunter Wilkinson (1,251 rushing
Van Buren quarterback Gary Phillips (8) flips an
option pitch last season against Rogers Heritage.
Phillips is expected to have a breakout season for
Van Buren as the Pointers move from Class 7A to
Class 6A in 2020.
