THE SKINNY Keylon now assumes the starting quarterback role after he shared those duties last year. Keylon completed 27 of 40 passes for 437 yards and 4 TDs, and he ran for 223 yards and a score. … Duck will be a three-year starter at tight end and is the Goblins' leading returning receiver with three receptions for 38 yards. He will also be a starter on the defensive line and has drawn attention from Arkansas Tech, Harding and Ouachita Baptist. … Chrisman and Thompson give the Goblins two experienced starters on the offensive line. … Allen had 33 tackles and will anchor the defensive line again this fall. … Richardson led Harrison last fall with four quarterback sacks as an outside linebacker, and he also ran for 232 yards and a touchdown … Gillham had 45 tackles in limited duty at linebacker and should assume that role this fall. … Johnson finished last fall with 36 tackles out of the defensive backfield. THAT'S WHAT HE SAID "These guys that we have won a lot of football games at the junior high and the JV level. These guys got into a lot of games late last year and played some Friday night time. We feel like it might take us a little while, but we feel like by conference time that we'll be right in the mix." — Joel Wells, Harrison coach SCHEDULE Aug. 28 ..... vs. Magnolia% Oct. 9 ......... at Greenbrier* Sept. 4 ...... THE SKINNY After years of playing in the 4A-1 Conference, Pea Ridge makes the move up to the 5A-West this season … The Blackhawks are under new guidance as Williams left Fort Smith Southside to replace Stephen Neal, who took a job in Oklahoma. … Pea Ridge opened the season last year against Harrison and will close out its regular season this year at F.S. Garrison Stadium. … Withrow takes over at quarterback after splitting time between quarterback and receiver last year. Two of his seven receptions were for touchdowns … Blair caught 17 passes for 402 yards and a pair of touchdowns and should become the primary target in the passing game. … Ericson returns at tackle, where he led the Blackhawks in pancake blocks. … Adams is the team's leading returning tackle with 57 from the safety position. … Stewart returns at one of the corners, where he had 33 tackles last fall. THAT'S WHAT HE SAID "We want to put a good product on the field. We want to be physical; we want to be tough and play the style of football Pea Ridge has played for years. Our kids have that mentality. We're also making the jump from 4A to 5A, and the 5A-West is one of the most respected leagues in the state with great coaches and a lot of great players. It's going to be a transition for us. We're going to have to make a lot of long road trips that they are normally not used to doing, but we'll be able to adjust to those things. It's a great challenge for us." — Jeff Williams, Pea Ridge coach SCHEDULE Aug. 28 ..... at Shiloh Christian Oct. 9 ............... at Vilonia* Sept. 4 ...... Siloam Springs Oct. 16 ........... THE SKINNY Rusty Bush hopes to reignite the hard-nosed passion that Alma's program stood by during the Frank Vines and Doug Loughridge era. But the Airedales will be young. Bush, who comes over from Northside, is building his offensive line around three-year starter Seth Cole. Cole is among two offensive holdovers from the 2019 season. Bush expects Cole to see time on defense, too. … Junior Hunter McAllistester is bidding to become the team's next quarterback. … Brayden Allen, another junior, is listed as a tight end but may also see time at quarterback. … Senior Joseph York will be a two-way threat for the Airedales. He returns at one of the cornerback slots, opposite Jacob Coursey - who will also see some time at receiver and running back. The Airedales do have five defensive holdovers. … Alma opens with rival Van Buren and then hits the road for a Sept. 11 clash with defending 4A state champ Poteau. … THAT'S WHAT HE SAID "Right now, looking at all of our kids, Joseph York is one of the toughest kids I've ever been around. He is running around everywhere on the football field. That first day in full pads, getting late in practice, he raised his hand to come out for one play. He comes over, throws up, and then goes right back in there. It's a small senior class; we want to be upwards of 25 to 28, and we're at about 21. That's a goal of mine to keep those kids out." — Rusty Bush, Alma coach SCHEDULE Sept. 4 ...... Van Buren Oct. 9 ......... At Clarksville* Sept. 11 .... At Poteau Oct. 16 ............. THE SKINNY Clarksville coach Khris Buckner knows how close the Panthers were in 2019. But close doesn't guarantee playoff seedings. The Panthers opened 2019 with three straight wins, including a victory over defending (2018 Class 3A) state champ Booneville. A pair of close conference losses to Farmington and Alma kept the team from tasting post-season play. … Super sophomore Arthur Alvarez led the junior high team to a 7-0 conference mark and finished with 2,000 yards rushing. He figures to add to the Panthers' already stout running game. … Bryce Buckner, the coach's son, rushed for 522 yards (6.8 yards per carry) and scored seven times as a sophomore. … Miles Castleman, Matt Colvin and Nalidje Powell will play key roles in the Panthers' success, the coach said. THAT'S WHAT HE SAID "The big thing with us is depth. I believe that with everything that happened, it's kind of been a blessing, because we've been able to condition more. We're going to have to play a lot of guys both ways. We have to stay healthy and play sound football." — Khris Buckner, Clarksville coach SCHEDULE Aug. 28 .....
