THE SKINNY Veteran Mike Adams returns after surpassing the 200 mark for career victories. Adams has been a head coach for 34 years, including 17 at Farmington. … Farmington finished 6-4 after starting the season with five consecutive victories. …. Farmington scored 289 points and allowed 264 points in 10 games. … Junior receiver Devonte Donovan is also a starter on the Farmington basketball team. …. Senior quarterback Tate Sutton is attempting a comeback after missing the past two seasons with a shoulder injury …. Adams coached Springdale coach Zak Clark when Clark was in high school at Fayetteville. …. Farmington is picked sixth in a preseason poll of the league's coaches. THAT'S WHAT HE SAID "Offensively, I think our wide receivers are going to be a strong suit. "We've got five or six guys there we feel really good about. We don't have a lot of depth in our offensive line. We've got a couple of kids hurt and it's critical for us to develop some depth there." — Mike Adams, Farmington coach SCHEDULE Aug. 28 ..... Elsik Donovan Matthews Ingraham "I think you have a chance to win every Friday night," Wells said. "But you also have a chance to lose every Friday night. In our league you can probably throw five or six teams in the mix. "We feel like, until you take it away from us, we're the conference champs. We're going for four in a row, and somebody will have to take it from us. There should be a target on our back." The 5A-West has a new member as Pea Ridge jumps from the 4A-1 Conference and takes the place of Huntsville. Huntsville would have remained a Class 5A school and would have probably bumped Vilonia to the 5A-Central had it not been for eStem, a charter school in Little Rock which jumped to Class 5A status and became the state's largest non-football playing school. The Blackhawks not only have a new classification, but they will begin Class 5A status with a new coach after Stephen Neal resigned to take a job in Oklahoma. Pea Ridge's replacement is someone who knows a thing or two about competing in tough conferences as Jeff Williams guided Fort Smith Southside for years in the 7A-West and the 7A-Central. "Week in and week out, I'm used to preparing where there are no gimmes on the schedule," Williams said. "You look at our schedule, and everybody we play in nonconference is a top contender. Then you get into conference play, and this is one of the top conferences in the state. I'm used to that. "I think I can bring to the table the fact that you have to battle week in and week out. You're going to deal with injuries and you're going to deal with certain situations that come up during the year. The teams that get better as the year goes on are usually the ones that are getting into the playoffs. Our goal is to just get into the playoffs and see what happens." Williams is one of two new coaches in the conference. Rusty Bush, a former assistant at Fort Smith Northside, takes over at Alma for Doug Loughridge, who now assumes the school's athletic director role.
