Forest Service maps have gone mobile Now there's a new, lighter and more convenient way to view your National Forest maps. In response to a survey concerning U.S. Forest Service map availability, all forest visitor maps and quad maps covering portions of California are available for purchase through the Avenza PDF Maps Application. This app is free of charge and available for most Apple iOS products. The app can be downloaded directly to your device through the iTunes store. You can go to the Avenza website now to get a beta version of the app for Android devices. The Forest Service has determined this application is the best for displaying Forest Visitor Maps, Forest-Atlas pages, Motor Vehicle Use Maps, and Motor Vehicle Opportunity Guides. Forest Visitor maps and Forest Atlas pages are available for $3.99 and $.99 respectively. The Motor Vehicle Use Maps and Motor Vehicle Opportunity Guides will be free of charge and available starting in January. The maps are georeferenced and will work in conjunction with the GPS-enabled iOS devices (iPhone 3GS and higher/ iPads with 3G/LTE). Hospital lab earns certification REDDING — Mercy Medical Center Redding has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for health care quality and safety in laboratories. The accreditation award recognizes Mercy's dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission's state-of-the-art standards. The hospital underwent a rigorous unannounced on-site survey in November 2012. A team of Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated it for compliance with standards of care that directly affect the quality and safety of diagnostic services and patient care. Police reports attempted carjacking and misdemeanor vandalism. Theft • The theft of a repeater tail from a phone line was reported in the area of Jellys Ferry at Bend Ferry. Too loud Arrests •A 54-year-old Tehama County resident called the Tehama County Sheriff's Department Thursday evening to complain of loud music at a neighbor's house. Logs said the woman was very agitated and mentioned obtaining a gun to resolve the ongoing problem. The department contacted the residence by phone and the person agreed to turn the music down. • Jason Wayne Freisner, 35, Red Bluff was arrested on Spider Island for a felony parole violation. • Ashley Elizabeth Lakey, 23, Red Bluff was arrested on Jackson Street for felony making a fictitious check and burglary.
