BY JAY BOBBIN For pure nostalgic fun, it's hard to beat "American Graffiti" (HBO Max, streaming), the 1973 comedy that helped cement George Lucas as a major filmmaker. He reached back to 1962 to trace a very meaningful night for several California teens, including two new high-school grads (Ron Howard, in the role that set him up for a long run on "Happy Days," and Richard Dreyfuss) who might or might not be heading off to college the next day. The entire ensemble cast is fabulous, also encompassing Cindy Williams as Howard's girlfriend who worries about him and "college girls," Paul LeMat as a moody hot-rodder and Charles Martin Smith as the gang's resident nerd "Toad." A bonus for music fans is the superbly chosen soundtrack compiling many hits of the era, with legendary disc jockey Wolfman Jack turning up to advise Dreyfuss' lovelorn character. 'American Graffiti' is still terrifically timeless "The New York Times Presents" A co-production of FX and Hulu, this documentary series delves into breaking news stories, investigations, character-driven tales and feature reporting from journalists at The New York Times. The opening episode looks at the extraordinary efforts of doctors and nurses at the peak of the coronavirus pandemic in New York City. (ORIGINAL) "Cómo sobrevivir soltero" From Mexico comes this comedy series about a man who finds himself suddenly single again after discovering his fiancee of 10 years has been cheating on him. Thrust back into the world of dating, he's hanging around with a bunch of misfit friends who are as unlucky in love as he is. (ORIGINAL) "Movie: Offering to the Storm" From Spain and director Fernando Gonzalez Molina ("Palm Trees in the Snow," "I Want You") comes this thriller about a police inspector who investigates an infant's murder that has similarities to killings in a nearby valley years ago, which some blamed on a magical creature. Leonardo Sbaraglia, Marta Etura and Alvaro Cervantes head the cast. (ORIGINAL) "The Fugitive" (Aug. 3, Quibi) This update of the classic 1963-67 TV series and 1993 feature film stars Boyd Holbrook as Mike Ferro, a blue-collar man who goes on the run when he's implicated in the bombing of a Los Angeles subway train. Kiefer Sutherlandplays the legendary cop charged with finding him. How to watch: quibi.com (90-day free trial; $4.99/mo.) The STREAM Scene Where all the top choices can be found in one place!
