When I heard the news, I couldn't help but think of a story from my freshman year at Wes. Dick was a senior and captain of the basketball team. For some reason, Steve Beauchamp '77 and I had volunteered to be assistant managers for the basketball team, so we happened to be on a trip with the team when they played Coast Guard down in New London. To say Dick was a great basketball player is an understatement, and to say that he had a great game that night would be a gross understatement. The Cards kept feeding him the ball and he kept hitting his shots—nothing but net. At the end of the game, Coast Guard's coach came running over to shake Dick's hand, simply saying, 'When you graduate in May, I want to come up there and personally hand you your diploma!' Dick was a special guy, and we should remember and celebrate him along with all of our friends, family, and loved ones. These are the folks who provide true meaning in our lives and who are there for us always."––Jeff Gray '77 It is with deep regret and great sorrow that we inform you of the sudden passing of our good friend, Joe Britton '79.
