Community Development’s Acquisition and Demolition Program has also been well utilized since it began in the summer of 2008. Iron Mike has moved downtown to the future site of the State Veterans Park, which is a project the City of Fayetteville is overseeing. Iron Mike is long known in this area as an iconic statue on Ft. Bragg, either at the entranceway as some front of Post Headquarters and the Ft. Bragg 2005 on Ft. Bragg, the original has been refurbished and is set to be unveiled in front of the Airborne and Special Operations Museum in full view of the new State Veterans Park. The revealing of the newest member of downtown will take place Aug. 14 for National Airborne Day. When grass starts growing quickly in the warmer months, staff members of the City of Fayetteville’s Code Enforcement Division don’t have to look outside to notice. A telephone ringing off the hook in City Hall category, which includes overgrown yards, trash in yards and unsecured vacant homes. Naturally, fast growing grass is attributed to the rise, according to the Code Enforcement Division. Violations went from 201 in March to 321 in April to 856 in May, the latter of which Fayetteville received frequent rain. Staff says the increase is normal for this time of year. Employees of the division monitor neighborhoods by being assigned to 10 different zones in the city. Personnel also check properties when complaints have been called in. With the grass growing fast, the City of Fayetteville urges citizens to maintain their yards. So, get outside pull out your lawnmowers and weedeaters and keep those yards pristine.
