2A – Daily News – Tuesday, June 29, 2010 Community people&events Singletary-Johnston Classic kabobs from Confident Cooking This recipe is for Classic Beef, Sweet Pepper & Mushroom Kabobs and comes from Confident Cooking with Beef. 1 pound well trimmed boneless beef top sirloin or beef tenderloin steaks cut 1 inch thick. (Beef shoul- der top blade (flat iron) or beef shoulder center steaks (ranch) cut 1 inch thick may be substituted for the top sirloin or tenderloin steaks.) 8 ounces medium mushrooms 2 medium red, yellow or green bell peppers, cut into 1 inch pieces salt Bob and Jan Singletary are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter,Laurel Jean Singletary, to Jason Titus Johnston, son of Phil Johnston. On Saturday June 19, 2010 they had the perfect gathering of their closest family and friends. Laurel is a graduate of California State University, Chico holding a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. She was a study abroad student living in the Basque Country of Spain and Costa Rica. After her course work was complete she backpacked through Central America prior to returning to the states. Jason enlisted in the Army in 2002, where he served four tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. During his time in the military he received a Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Army Accommodation with Valor, and many other awards and medals. He retired as a Staff Sergeant in March of 2008. Jason is an instructor for the Department of Defense. Laurel and Jason have been friends for 11 years and they now live in North Carolina, but hope to make their way back to California soon. Broil 9 to 12 minutes for medium rare to medium done- ness, turning once. Season kabobs with salt, as desired. 4 Meanwhile prepare Cucumber Sauce. Serve kabobs with sauce. Makes 4 servings. 30 to 35 min- utes preparation and cooking time. Sally Ainsworth, children’s librarian, accepted the donation on behalf of the Friends of the Library from Connie Ross, Emblem Club past president. In keeping with the clubs interest in literacy, it also donated $300 to the Tehama County Reading Council.
