DTD 2 THE CORDELT attended and toasted to all. We were also fortunate to have Cornell Director of Sorority and Fraternity Life Kara Miller McCarthy briefly join our call to provide an update on Greek life at Cornell and what we may see for a reopening in the fall. While the University has yet to formalize a plan, she did note that things will look different on campus and that there will inevitably be a mix of learning formats and restrictions on gatherings. As always, we will work with the University to ensure that the men of Beta Omicron are prepared, safe, and in a position to succeed. Putting an End to Racial Injustice I can't write this article today without addressing the other news that has been in the forefront in recent weeks. I do so with my perspective not only as the House Corporation president, but as a brother to more than 800 living alumni from all walks of life, a husband to a wife who spent years working with minority students in the public schools of New York and saw first-hand the impacts of systemic racism, and most importantly as a father to two sons who will never have to overcome the obstacles, live in fear for their lives for simply walking down the street, or struggle for the simple rights guaranteed by our founding fathers that so many Americans, including some of our own brothers. I can't look my sons in the eyes when they are old enough to understand everything that is happening and tell them I remained silent. I can't look at our brothers and say I remained silent. Every person reading this is entitled to their own opinions on the matter, but I ask that any differences of opinion be productive and elevate the conversation, not retreat into the same arguments made for generations. We, as an organization and a country, can't grow and prosper without having these difficult conversations. We must remember our fundamental principles: Truth, Courage, Faith and Power. It is in times like this that these guiding words take hold and help us face our biggest challenges. The murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, among countless other black and brown Americans, are just the most recent displays of the deep-seeded racism that exists in this country (and within the Greek system). Our undergraduates have taken it upon themselves to help precipitate change and let the world know that they won't idly stand by. They are working to find ways to change policy on-campus and on local, state, and federal governments. They are working to change how the Greek system functions and make it as inclusive as possible, breaking the classist, marginalized, and racist views that have perpetuated the system for far too long. I applaud them for their initiative and will work with them to bring about meaningful change. I encourage anyone who wishes to help gather resources, produce educational material, or Beta Omicron Delts Deliver (Continued from page 1) Hugh Shields Society ($1,000 and above) Lawrence D. Staying Committed to Excellence This article has been my longest to date, but we also have never seen a semester like this one. I am always excited by what our undergraduates and alumni are doing. While some may see this article as a reminder of all of the "bad" we have seen over the past six months, I actually feel the opposite. We have successfully navigated the worst pandemic in over a century and are poised to do so as long as needed. We are financially stable and our undergraduates are recruiting well to show both Cornell and the world why we are the best fraternity in the country. I'm excited to see what the next six months and beyond brings and hope that our 130th Homecoming, in whatever format it takes, will be better than the previous 129. I will close with two final and simple requests. Please reach out to your brothers and connect. You don't know what they may be going through right now and we need to ensure that all brothers have a network to fall back on. Please be the best brother, citizen, and human you can be. It is easy to let our worst out and difficult to bring the best out and elevate those around us. We are Beta Omicron Delts for a reason—we thrive under difficult situations. Stay safe and well. Fraternally, Graham Seward '07 House Corporation President T hanks to the generous contributions of the following brothers, Beta Omicron has raised $23,315 since spring 2019. The chapter's many accomplishments wouldn't be possible without these gifts. Contributions made since spring 2019 are listed below. If an error has been made in recording the amount of your gift(s), or we have mistakenly omitted your gift, we sin- cerely apologize. If corrections to your giving record are needed, please contact our campaign coordinator at (785) 843-1661. Your generosity is making a difference! Loyal Donors Make a Great Impact at Beta Omicron
