Here's to a great new decade for Zeta Psi! In Hoc Signo Vinces, Drew Harmon '14 President, House Corporation alumni@zetapsisigs.com C onnor "Bearcat" Martin '21 knew he was going to attend the University of Cincinnati since he was in fifth grade, even changing his middle name on Facebook to Bearcat which became a nickname. Once he began at Cincinnati and his older brother, Alex Martin '17, introduced him to his fraternity brothers, it didn't take long for him to realize he would be a Sigma Chi too. What Connor didn't know was the life-changing experience he was about to embark on. Before initiation, active brothers and new members meet one on one for an interview. This helps the new members get to know the older members better and learn the true values of Sigma Chi. It was during one particular interview Connor had with an older brother that had a lasting impact. He told Connor that after you go through a rough time in your life, you must "get back on the horse, don't point fingers, and stay positive." These words of wisdom left a mark on Connor, so he wrote it down in his phone to look back on. "Within a couple more interviews, I found that everyday people can say inspiring things and after three years I realized I had 1,000 quotes," said Connor. With a notes app full of friend, brother, and family sayings, he and a graphic design friend decided to make something of it. "He came to me and said we could make a book out of this and create a real aesthetically pleasing coffee table book," said Connor. "I wanted to share this story of being humble and finding inspiring stories from everyday people in your life that you can draw on." During his fourth year of college, he published Every Day Lessons from Everyday People: 365 Wise Quotes from Conversations. Connor had never imagined he would be publishing a book, but thanks to the motivation and support from Sigma Chi, he did. Connor began college as an engineering student, far from anything revolving publishing, but always felt he was meant for something An Everyday Undergraduate How Sigma Chi Inspired Connor Martin '21 to Publish a Book Connor Martin'21 at his book signing he hosted at Clovernook Country Club last December.
