"Journey to the Center of the Earth" (1959) Dinosaurs are among the hurdles faced by the band of adventurers following a scientist's path to the earth's core in this fanciful adaptation of the Jules Verne novel, remade in several other versions later. "Quest for Fire" (1981) Using a unique form of language developed by novelist Anthony Burgess, director Jean-Jacques Annaud's drama stays historically true to the tribes (re-created by such actors as Ron Perlman and Rae Dawn Chong) who are seen warring over whether or not they have the gift of creating fire. "The Land Before Time" (1988) Proving dinosaurs can be cute under the right circumstances, this animated treat (with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas among its producers) follows the adventure of young Littlefoot and his dinosaur friends ... which also would fuel 13 (!) movie sequels and a television series. "Jurassic Park" (1993) Since it's set in contemporary times, Steven Spielberg's franchise- launching film of Michael Crichton's novel might not be a prehistoric movie technically, but it certainly involves a bounty of prehistoric characters. "Ice Age" (2002) Animated figures are the stars of this popular comedy-adventure, with Ray Romano, Denis Leary and John Leguizamo furnishing the words for prehistoric animals that would reunite for four sequel films, plus a couple of TV specials.
