Is that true? — Pat Douglas, via e-mail A : Nothing is definite as of this writing, but there are a couple of reasons it should come as no surprise that another show in the CBS franchise is a definite pos- sibility. One is that the first spinoff, "FBI: Most Wanted," launched to strong ratings last winter and held up very well in its subsequent weeks (one of which entailed a crossover story with parent series "FBI"). Another reason is that the shows come from executive producer Dick Wolf, a big fan of growing multiple-series universes such as those of NBC's "Chicago" dramas and "Law & Order" (the latter of which used to have other series in addition to "Special Victims Unit," with Christopher Meloni's upcoming return as Stabler possibly adding another show back in under that umbrella). Certainly, CBS wouldn't mind having a similar success spread out over sev- eral programs, so we'd have to say that an "FBI" expansion is more likely than not. Q : I thought I saw Robert Redford in an episode of "The Twilight Zone." Am I right? — Scott Holman, Fre- mont, N.C. A : You are. During the third season of the original ver- sion of Rod Serling's classic anthology series, Redford appeared in the story "Nothing in the Dark," playing a wound- ed police officer who needs the help of a senior citizen (portrayed by Gladys Cooper) — but she's afraid he is the embodiment of death. That early-1960s job came at a time when Redford was doing a lot of television work on such shows as "Perry Ma- son," "Dr. Kildare," "The Un- touchables," "The Defenders" and "Alfred Hitchcock Pres- ents." It was largely through the support of Natalie Wood (as he confirms in the recent HBO documentary about her) that his career in movies took hold in the mid-'60s, and that had his focus from then on. Q : I'm interested to see that there will be a se- ries called "Clarice" next season, inspired by "The Silence of the Lambs." Who will play Clarice Starling? — Robin Peters, via e-mail A : The CBS drama's title role has gone to Rebecca Breeds, an Australian actress known here for roles on "The Originals" and "Pretty Little Liars." She also was seen on CBS' "The Code," and in her homeland, she appeared in almost 400 episodes of the enduring serial "Home and Away." Breeds has some time to rev up for her prominent new role, since the corona- virus pandemic has left it a question mark as to when pro- duction on "Clarice" will begin; also, the show is slated for a midseason premiere.
