"I just want to express how humbled and grateful we are for everyone in the community who has contributed in response to this crisis," said Josh Matthews, operations director of the Food Bank of North Alabama. "We've had a lot of businesses, like Redstone Federal Credit Union, along with individuals, the media and our agency partners – everyone has just been absolutely ready to step up and help us meet the challenges of this unprecedented time we are all going through." He said the Food Bank has distributed more than 2 million pounds of food to its 250-agency network located throughout North Alabama since March 15. "at's more than 1.7 million meals, and it's double the demand we see during the normal operations of our agencies," Matthews said. "We've been doing our best to meet the need with the help of our donors and, nationally, through the Feeding America network." Fran Fluhler, director of Manna House in Huntsville, said she's seen an influx of those who are temporarily laid off and are out of their emergency funds. "Many have children and do not have any other resources by which to get food and groceries," Fluhler said. "We are so grateful for a caring community that has come together to help us provide for these families." Redstone employees regularly donate to and volunteer at Manna House.
