It is a destructive wind, and not the wind of the Holy Spirit of God! It is a "killer" wind, sent by Satan. What is the wind seeking to do? This wind is insidiously "blowing" its message against the minds of Christians. Its purpose is to erode and destroy our faith, to cloud our vision of the truth of God’s Word, and to divide believers, through the accep- tance of compromise. It seeks to pro- mote whisperings against each other, so that we are afraid to speak the truth, in love. The Red Bluff Vineyard Christian Fellowship, 738 Wal- nut St., will host its 9th Ecuadorian dinner and silent auc- tion 5-8 p.m. Sunday, July 11, to support the orphanage For His Children in Quito and Latacunga, Ecuador. The dinner is a four course meal with traditional Ecuado- rian fare brought back by past mission team members. The silent auction has included in the past many hand crafted items such as paintings by local well-known artists, gift bas- kets and donations from area merchants. The Red Bluff Vineyard has been committed to For His Children for 11 years. FHC was started by Mark and Melin- da Vaughn, who moved to Quito, Ecuador, from Mammoth Lakes in 1990. They have 60-70 children under their care, most of them infants and toddlers. About a third of the chil- dren have moderate to severe special needs. The missionary team from the Vineyard shares the belief with FHC that we are to "love His children" and support children who have suffered the greatest of all traumas, separation from family. While in Ecuador, members of the team provide medical care, construction projects, love and moral support to the staff and children, and minister to the spiritual needs of the Vaughns and local residents. Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 children and $25 couple, and can be purchased at the Vineyard or by calling 527- 2449. Proceeds go directly to fund work projects at FHC. Churches to worship at park Churches are invited to come together for a Worship Ser- vice at River Park on Sunday July 4. Many area churches are disbanding their regular loca- tions to combine their Sunday morning worship experience on the 4th. The combined service will include a youth wor- ship band comprised of band members from various churches with their church leaders involved in the worship event. Pastor Steve Igarta, president of the Red Bluff Minister- ial Association, will deliver the sermon. Local area vendors will provide lunch. Children and adult activities are planned for the after- noon. The event will occur 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The public is invited to join together with the sponsoring churches in worship. Each person is encouraged to bring lawn chairs for seating. Ruth is one of my favorite books in the Old Testament. Her entire life changed when her husband died. The family structure that made her feel secure crumbled. Her mother-in- law’s husband died, and then her two sons died. Naomi was left with her two daughter-in-laws, Ruth and Orpha. While all three women suffered with a wind of adversity, we will only look at Ruth, and how she han- dled tragedy. She had opportunity to compromise, but instead she chose God’s way. Even though she came from a pagan background in Moab, once she met the God of Israel, she followed Him with all her heart. So, when Ruth had the choice of going back to her own people, or staying with Naomi, she chose to leave her own people and follow the true and living God! Orpha also loved Naomi, but decided to return to her own people. I love what Ruth said to Naomi: "Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from follow- ing you; for where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my peo- ple, and your God, my God," Ruth 1:16. The secret of God’s blessing that came upon Ruth was directly related to her submission to God, rather than taking "the easy road." She had no idea what would become of her after making such a decision, but yet she trusted God. In studying the remainder of the book of Ruth, we see that God had Boaz planned for her new hus- band. The results were wonderful, for Boaz pro- vided for both Ruth and Naomi, and the security sent from heaven, was the end result. Serving God, with no compromise, always brings blessings. Waiting on God’s "time table" also brings peace to our heart. Patricia Martin GodTalk When we begin to focus on the wind, rather than on our secure place in God, we become vulnerable to being tossed to and fro. Let us always remember that we are seated with Him in the heavenly realm of His glory. Paul says Jesus "raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus," in Ephesians 2:6. I think most Christians know the enemy is attacking them, and some- times the whirlwinds of Satan, seem too much for us to stand against. We have become weakened by the dis- tractions of daily life and turmoil all around us. However, God has not left us alone and we can arise out of the fury of the wind! "I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you," (Hebrews 13:5 NAS) says the Lord. Being alert to the wind of Satan is a major step forward. Taking action is the way to victory, through Jesus Christ. Not being "on the run" like a frightened rabbit, is vital to our safe- ty. Remembering who we are in Christ and fully trust- ing Him is the answer. "But in all these things we over- whelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that nei- ther death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" says Romans 8:37,38,39. We cannot leave out our personal obedience to the Word of God, for herein remains our stability, as we stand firm against the wind of the adversary. John 14:21 decalres, "He who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me, and he who loves Me shall be loved by My Father, and I will love him, and will disclose Myself to him." How awesome to have the Lord reveal Himself to us! Oh, the great power of intimacy in our personal relationship with our Lord! Knowing Him brings us to a place of understanding that nothing is impossible with God. (See Luke 1:37) Our God will sustain us through every adversarial wind.
