In his first starring turn, Lou Diamond Phillips shines as the artist who recorded the Latin rock hit "La Bamba," part of a strong cast that also includes Esai Morales, Elizabeth Pena and Rosanna DeSoto. "The Doors" (1991) Val Kilmer perfectly captured the flaky, troubled genius that was lead singer Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's superb biopic of the influential 1960s rock group that was behind such hits as "Light My Fire," "People Are Strange" and "Riders on the Storm." "Ray" (2004) Jamie Foxx won a lead actor Oscar for his turn as legendary bluesman Ray Charles, who triumphed over blindness and rose from humble beginnings to attain music stardom. Of course, there were problems along the way – drug addiction and a weakness for women among them – but he managed to quell his demons in Taylor Hackford's superb drama. Kerry Washington and Regina King also star. "Walk the Line" (2005) Co- stars Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon proved themselves more than game in inhabiting the personas of Johnny Cash and June Carter in James Mangold's excellent drama, even going so far as actually performing the husband-and-wife country artists' songs.
