How the world has changed in the last few months. I hope this newsletter finds you healthy and safe from the COVID-19 pandemic that has swept the United States and much of the rest of the globe. Though not a matter of life and death, as many have faced, the cancellation of the St. Pat's celebration in Rolla is something we've not witnessed since World War II. The undergraduate brothers and the university have adapted by holding classes online with a large number returning to their homes to finish the semester, but Lambda Chi Alpha is still strong at Missouri S&T. The Housing Corporation is also on a sound footing and appears to be weathering the financial storm the COVID disruption has introduced. In many ways, we are in uncharted waters with our Fraternity. Many of the brothers returned home to finish their classes online, leaving a largely empty 1705 Pine Street. When the country and world finally comes out the other side of this crisis, our Housing Corporation and undergraduate brothers will need your help to rebuild a healthy, strong organization through the summer into the fall. From what I have observed, we have a passionate cohort of brothers. With your support, we can demonstrate the bond of Lambda Chi Alpha extends beyond the four or maybe five to seven years spent in Rolla. Recruitment is always critical, but especially so this year. If you know of any of any male students who would make great Lambda Chi Alphas and are planning to attend Missouri S&T in the future, send us their contact information and we will make sure to pass it on to the active brothers. You can contact us with prospective new members or send any questions or comments to lca.adz.alumni@ gmail.com. We always love to hear from you. Lastly, I wanted to take this opportunity to inform you that I will not be pursuing re-election as your Housing Corporation president at this fall's Homecoming alumni meeting. I have enjoyed serving Lambda Chi Alpha since I began as an undergraduate in 1993 and plan to serve in some less demanding capacity for years to come. Alpha-Delta Zeta deserves more focus from its president than I can give at this time in my professional career. Please consider nominations for the Housing Corporation slate of officers and feel free to send those to us ahead of Homecoming. If you have the ability, please join us in October in Rolla for the fall meeting and elections. In ZAX, Rob Sutton AΔ 1158 President, Housing Corporation rwsutton1158@gmail.com Firmly Committed to Lambda Chi's Values Recruitment Recommendations Crucial During Uncertain Times of COVID-19 D avid Heikkinen AΔ 1079 says that he was a total nerd when he first joined Alpha Delta Chapter after going through the recruitment process with a group of close friends. "I lacked confidence, but found my voice in the Fraternity," David said. "I learned how other men acted and tried to take the best examples set by my brothers and incorporate those attributes into how I live and act." While living in the Chapter House, David embraced the many friendships and the brotherhood. "I was proud of our associate class and the impact we had on Alpha-Delta." He also held a large role in that impact while serving as High Beta. David remembers managing his first major project and the help and support he received from Jeff Kullmann AΔ 1109. "Jeff truly stepped up and saved the day," David said. "He probably doesn't realize how much the example he set mattered in how I continue to act on teams throughout my career." One of David's favorite activities with his brothers was playing cards. They played so often that it got to the point where they could predict the outcome of a hand of Spades or Hearts after the bid and first play. "Bidding and playing cards is a blessing that serves me well today in understanding markets," David said. Since graduating from Missouri University of Science & Technology with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering, David has been back to visit campus several times. He is especially impressed at the house renovations and how the new look sets Alpha-Delta Zeta apart from other chapters on campus.
