Beta Tau Housing Corporation of Sigma Kappa at the University of Florida • Spring 2020 Beta Tau ConnSKtion W hile my time on the House Corporation board has been limited to the past two semesters, it has provided me with a wealth of opportunities for personal growth, learning, and insight into the world around me. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to be changed so much by my role in the last year. I guess I should have expected that though, since that's exactly what Sigma Kappa did for me when I joined our sisterhood in 2012. I have befriended a wonderful group of women in fellow board members Amanda Rone '02 and Susan Rose '86, as well as my mentor, Gabrielle Miller '04, who has graciously helped in the transition to my new dual roles as secretary and treasurer. I am so thankful to have been granted this opportunity to connect with other alumnae, who I would not have met had I not joined the board. COMBATING COVID-19 The Housing Corporation board had planned to hold its 2020 annual meeting on April 5 at the chapter house, but state and local restrictions, as well as our own diligent observance of social distancing protocols to combat COVID-19, led us to explore a digital platform instead. The health and safety of our sisters and employees are always top priorities. Prior to sisters' return to our home, it will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected by professionals in accordance with recommendations set forth by public health agencies. SUCCESSFULLY BALANCING THE BUDGET I am happy to tell you that Beta Tau operates in a fiscally sound manner. We are pleased with the most recent financial update, for February 2020, which reported our cash available for operations at $308,147.42. From this account, we pay our mortgage, utilities, staff salary, insurance, etc. We look forward to another year of growth for our reserve savings account (our "rainy day fund"), currently at $156,279.69. We are also focused on smartly utilizing our housing and furnishings fund to maintain, refresh, and update our beautiful property, which stands at $165,820.21. We always look forward to another year of working with Miss Diane, who is such an asset to us and a marvelous house director. MOVING FORWARD One of the main goals for 2020 is to further alumnae involvement with the board. Although many alumnae lived in and loved a different house at 1108 Panhellenic Drive, we all dreamed of the house standing there today. We always welcome new alumnae involvement and interest in joining our board. Please email skhouseuf@gmail.com if you are interested in more information. We look forward to the Sigma Kappa National Convention this June. Whether we are together or hunkered down at home, no doubt we will continue to learn and grow in our sisterhood.
