When the Corporation Board met on February 8 for our semi-annual meeting, the gathering was fairly routine. We considered the usual issues and adjourned having completed our agenda. Who would have thought that some five weeks later the climate on campus and in the fraternity house would be turned upside down? Classes at Iowa State University have been converted to online for the remainder of the semester. Not only are shaking hands and hugging considered dangerous, we are being told to socially distance ourselves from others by at least six feet. Bars and restaurants have been closed indefinitely, and many of us are now working from home. COVID-19 has truly disrupted life in the United States and around the globe. Fortunately, we are resilient. Our nation has survived a civil war, two world wars, and numerous natural disasters. I am confident that we will get through this pandemic as well. Though the Alpha Mu Chapter House is closed for the remainder of the semester, I am optimistic that the fall semester will bring normalcy back to campus. In the interim, stay safe and care for yourselves, your families, and your loved ones. Please reach out to your brothers to see how they are doing, or even just to say hello. The brotherhood remains strong despite the current situation. I hope to see many of you at the fall tailgate! Fraternally, Ted Hovda '73 Alumni Corporation Board President tshovda@comm1net.net A lpha Mu Chapter active members hit the ground running this spring. We held a big brotherhood event to watch the College Football National Championship where brothers had a great time watching an exciting game. Fast forward to the Super Bowl where we hosted another brotherhood event to root for the Kansas City Chiefs. Brothers watched and supported one of our very recent alumni, Alec Nichols '19, who is an athletic trainer in training for the Chiefs. On February 22 we had our Moms Weekend where we had a brunch, an auction to raise money for our furniture fund, and went to a Cyclones basketball game. On March 9, we had our annual Candlelight Vigil in partnership with Pi Beta Phi and Tau Kappa Epsilon to shine a light and raise awareness for sexual assault and domestic violence. All in attendance pledged to do our part to advocate on behalf of victims. Our membership has undergone an unforeseen challenge with the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, and we are handling this challenge in alignment with what Theta Chi National and our University have advised us to do. Alpha Mu will meet via online methods as classes have been moved to online only. It's times like these that we should all be grateful to be part of such a supportive brotherhood. I hope that everyone has a safe and healthy summer, and we look forward to being back on campus in the fall to represent Alpha Mu Chapter!
