W
e kicked of our philanthropy
semester by volunteering for
the St. Jude 5K in Kansas City.
It's a blast every year to see people come
from all over the KC area to support St.
Jude. In the fall we had Sincerely Yours,
a letter-writing event where we inform
our friends and family about St. Jude's
purpose and ask for donations. We also
held an online fundraiser called 10K in
a Day, and we successfully beat our goal,
raising more than $14,000 in 24 hours
on February 13.
We had the pleasure of connecting with
a local St. Jude family, the Hendersons.
Their son, Grit, is 2 years old and a St.
Jude patient. They live in Lawrence
but occasionally travel to Memphis for
treatments and appointments. We had
Grit's family at the Chapter House for
dinner, and his dad, Nolan, spoke to our
chapter about how St. Jude had impacted
them and made their scary situation a
little bit easier. Recently, Grit's scans
revealed that he is cancer free, and we
are looking forward to hanging out with
Grit and hopefully celebrating his good
news soon!
Unfortunately, our spring Delta
Dinner event has been canceled due to
COVID-19. This annual pancake dinner
event is a ton of fun and a great way to
bring the community together. We are
working to plan an alternative event this
fall. As a result of our fall 2019 events,
we raised $52,000 for St. Jude, and we
are so proud to be partnered with such
an amazing organization.
