OUR TRADITION OF DISTINCTION
L
ong before the mission of Sigma Phi Epsilon became
Building Balanced Men, the Oregon Beta Chapter
was a transformational experience for many decades of
young men attending Oregon.
Our cardinal principles—virtue, diligence, and brotherly
love—have guided our members for nearly 100 years.
Through SigEp we also acquired the necessary skills of
leadership, teamwork, and character. Oftentimes, these
traits have been integral to our personal success and
helped make us the men we are today.
The SigEp experience is much more than living together
in a house, however. Our bonds of brotherhood were
forged while we learned to co-exist with our principles
in mind. However, if we believe future generations can
benefit like we did then we must work together create
and execute a plan that will continue to make Sigma Phi
Epsilon a leader at Oregon.
Remembering 849 E. 11th Avenue
What is now an event center parking lot for Northwestern
Christian University (NCU) students once stood the original
SigEp house. For our brothers initiated before 1960, 849 E.
11th Avenue was home. NCU officials offered SigEp a land
swap for the 1000 Alder Street property plus cash to build
the current house. We credit those leaders for recognizing
an opportunity to build a house specifically designed to
accommodate college men for the years to come.
