2A Daily News – Wednesday, April 24, 2013 Community people&events Keg, cork and fork festival If you enjoy craft beers, fine wines and gourmet cuisine, mark your calendars, because the Red Bluff Elks Lodge is your destination for a new celebration of Northern California culture that organizers anticipate will become a popular annual affair. This low-cost event, scheduled for 3-9 p.m. Saturday, May 18, will feature food and beverages produced exclusively within Northern California, with an emphasis on Tehama, Butte and Shasta counties. One goal of the happening is to try to represent at least every winery and brewery within that tri-county region, though other beers and wines are also welcome. "It's tricky to arrange for all of the breweries and wineries to be in one place at one time on one day because of their busy schedules," said event co-organizer Mace Archer. "But folks are really stepping up, so we're going to have a great selection present and are adding more each day." It's not just the beverages that will be a draw, but the gourmet food offerings, which will include a variety of hors d'oeuvres, full meals, barbecue, desserts and more. Live music will also be performed throughout the event. In addition to a complimentary take-home wine glass, visitors to this special event will get a punchcard which will allow them to sample a generous amount of wines, or beers, or foods, or any combinations of the three that they desire. Full glasses of beer and wine and full meals will also be available for purchase. In the interest of keeping the event affordable for everyone, admission prices will be at $20 for all advanced tickets. Passes will soon be on sale at Wild Oak in downtown Red Bluff, and are now available online at www.northstateevents.info. Additional vendors of gourmet foods, beers and wine are also welcome and there is no charge to participate. If you would like to take part, or want additional information, visit the website or call (530) 784-4TIX. We dress so casually that women do not take pride in being women, and men are losing their dignity. I believe in equality, but do women have to dress like men? And everyone wears jeans with everything. We look sloppy. People from other countries must wonder why we don't take more care with our outward appearance. After all, it reflects a healthy mind, body and spirit, and shows we care about our American image.
