2 MU NEWS SISTERS ON PURPOSE M y time at Cal has been somewhat hectic. My decision to graduate in three years meant I often found myself taking 21 units, working, and participating in various on-campus organizations. I spent most of my time with BridgeUSA, serving as facilities manager for Mu, and working with the L.A. County Commission for Women. My plans for the future changed often, but I ultimately discovered my passion for international environmental development. I will be graduating with a B.A in political economy, with a concentration in global development and the environment. I am looking forward to my upcoming gap year, during which I will take the LSAT, backpack Europe, and potentially pursue the Peace Corps. While my Berkeley experience has been professionally and academically transformative, the friendships I developed have been the most meaningful. I am enjoying my final semester of prioritizing studying, time with friends, and sleep. Loyally, Julia Norman '18 SCHOLARSHIP TO PLACE SCHOLARSHIP BEFORE SOCIAL OBLIGATIONS CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT TO ACT SINCERELY, TO CHOOSE THOUGHTFULLY B eing a member of Chi Omega at Cal has given me the opportunity to interact with so many talented and accomplished women every day, as well as hear about their active involvement in campus activities. As a freshman last year, this was something that inspired me and drove me to become more involved in organizations on campus, including the Cal Alumni Student Association, a pre-law organization, and two startups, Quokka Brew and Snackpass. Now working as a project manager for Quokka Brew and campus ambassador for Snackpass, I have encountered a lot of support from my sisters as they express enthusiasm and interest by showing up to my sponsored events and purchasing Quokka Brew Coffee. Chi Omega has created a culture that is conducive to campus involvement at Cal as leadership and proactiveness are heavily promoted every day at the house. As one of many women in the sorority who are leaders in other organizations, I hope to continue educating my sisters on the many clubs and organizations we have at Cal, so they become inspired and make an even greater mark on campus. Loyally, Estefania Martinez Pardo '19 L ast semester was a very exciting time for philanthropy! We started off the semester with our annual Wake-Up for Wishes Pancake Brunch that brought such a crowd that we sold out of tickets and had a line trailing down the steps of the front porch. It was a very exciting event and brought all of our friends together for a morning of pancakes, laughter, and, of course, Make-a-Wish. The following week, members who have played an integral role in supporting Make-a-Wish traveled to San Francisco to meet with donors, wish recipients, and Make-a-Wish staff for a breakfast fundraiser. As always, it was amazing to see all of the people who come together to make these wishes come true. We ended the semester doing our semi-annual candygram fundraiser during dead week with Sigma Nu Fraternity, raising money for Make-a-Wish and St. Jude Children's Hospital. All of our philanthropic efforts raised more $5,500 last semester, and we are very excited to grant a wish! This January, we were also fortunate to participate in a wish by hosting Sewon, a wish recipient from South Korea and student at the University of Seoul. She wanted to visit universities in California and paid a visit to the Berkeley and Stanford campuses.
