A young man walked up to her and said, "You know that mask won't protect you against the virus! You're stupid if you think it will." Grandmother calmly replied, "Oh, but young man, I don't wear this mask to protect myself; I wear it to protect you." The young man stood quietly, watching her nod her head with eyes smiling as she continued on her way down the isle. So... none of us have ever experi- enced anything quite like what our world is experiencing now. And un- der the stress of our current situa- tion, we may not be bringing the best of who we are to our interactions with each other. We can choose to act more gently, tho. Some say it's like 9/11, some say it's like being at war, while others are sit- ting at home in fear of the unknown. U.S. residents will receive the Eco- nomic Impact Payment of $1,200 for individual or head of household fi lers, and $2,400 for married fi ling jointly if they are not a dependent of another taxpayer and have a work eligible Social Security number with adjusted gross income. For most taxpayers, payments are automatic, and no further action is needed. This includes taxpayers who fi led tax returns in 2018 and 2019 and most seniors and retirees. Eligible retirees and recipients of Social Security, Railroad Retirement, disability or veterans' benefi ts as well as taxpayers who do not make enough money to normally have to fi le a tax return will receive a payment. This also includes those who have no in- come, as well as those whose income comes entirely from certain benefi t programs, such as Supplemental Se- curity Income benefi ts. Retirees who receive either Social Security retirement or Railroad Re- tirement benefi ts will also receive payments automatically. The IRS urges taxpayers to be on the lookout for scam artists trying to use the economic impact payments as cover for schemes to steal person- al information and money. Remem- ber, the IRS will not call , text you, email you or contact you on social media asking for personal or bank account information – even related to the economic impact payments. Also, watch out for emails with at- tachments or links claiming to have special information about economic impact payments or refunds. There are other individuals such as low-income workers and certain veterans and individuals with dis- abilities who aren't required to fi le a tax return, but they are still eligible for the Economic Impact Payments. If you don't have to fi le, use the "Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here" application to provide simple information so you can get your pay- ment. www.irs.gov/coronavirus/ non-fi lers-enter-payment-info-here Simulus checks updates Change is no fun and can be quite scary... I hear ya. This seems like a good time to reach out to one another, fi nd a spark of Hope, add some kind- ness to feed the fl ame of Hope, and pass it on to our friends and loved ones. On the back page of this edition is a Big Heart you can color and place in your windows to show the world we are in this all together. We don't know what the future will bring. We don't know when or if things will ever be "normal" again. Maybe "normal" wasn't working so well anyway. I sure am enjoy- ing spending some quiet time after the hectic and busy season, with all the places to be and people to see. Demands on our time for work or play can get in the way of enjoy- ing the rising sun or just a good old fashioned bowl of popcorn while watching a movie on my wish list from years ago. I'm actually enjoy- ing being like the Willow instead of the Oak. I'm learning to bend with the fl ow of life. Spring is happening all around us, so we have lots to be grateful for! My elders often speak with hope about a time when the people will slow down and return to simpler times. Could that time be now?
