Does she look fl ushed? Look closer. Place the back of my hand on her forehead. (Forehead??) Is she aching in every joint? Is her little tummy upset? Now really, how does one tell? I've been practicing "Auld Lang Syne" perhaps she is feeling lonely, missing her old friends at the orphanage. It's not the Covid-19 virus after all. Now Auld Lang Syne is a three chord song, well, two chords with a third thrown in once or twice. Not very often. I'm so proud of myself. Ukulele: "a member of the lute family. A plucked string instru- ment". Lutes bring to mind stroll- ing troubadours in tights and silly striped tops singing for their supper. And if they displeased King What- soever didn't they get their heads chopped off? The troubadours, that is, not the lutes. The lutes were passed on to be plucked by the next unlucky "Best Talent" contestant. Plucked is what one does to a chicken, unless you can fi nd a broasted one in the store then there's no need for plucking. No need for cooking either which is a big plus. Plucking is intended to re- lieve the chicken of its feathers. I doubt Ubie would like that. Seeing as to how there are no feathers on Ubie, she can probably escape that. And I will continue to gently twang her strings (no feathers). I was once incensed when an editor (a previous one) referred to Country Music as "twanging." "Country mu- sic does not twang," I yowled. That was before I met Ubie. To be per- fectly honest Ubie does "twang." My ukulele Guru (unimpressed with Auld Lang Syne) suggested I try the internet, "There must be some help out there." For sure I need all the help I can get. Help? There are so many tutori- als one can hardly wade through them all. Wild shaggy looking guys. Weird dopey looking fellows. And fi nally after hours (well, one hour) of searching I fi nd a GAL. A GAL. And she doesn't look weird, she just looks Hawaiian. I won't ask to see her birth certifi cate, I trust she is Hawaiian and that must certify her to teach ukulele, right? I spent about an hour on some of her tutori- als (I like them) but now the middle fi nger of my right hand is so numb I can hardly type. Thanks to spell check or this would be unreadable. Do you suppose this is the answer to my prayers? When the feeling re- turns to my extremities I'll try some more of her stuff. Anyone walking by my place is advised to wear earmuffs in addi- tion to a face mask.
