We provide resources, encourage mentorship from older members, and recognize academic achievement. Brothers understand how grades can affect our university image, the impression our academic standing gives to alumni, and how crucial scholastic success is for recruiting. Consequently, the active chapter posted a 3.42 GPA for the fall 2019 semester and our new members had an even higher mark of 3.47. That was the second highest GPA for new members and top GPA of all fraternities. This marked the fourth consecutive semester that we finished in the top three in grades among MU fraternities. These results prove we pride ourselves on grades and that our academic program works. Brothers Aim to Build on Philanthropic Success Last fall, our main philanthropy event for the LiveLikeLou Foundation was a haunted house. We decorated the whole interior of the house and had active members stationed in costumes to spook attendees. More than 800 people came through the house and raised more than $6,000. This was a big success and we are looking to make it an annual event. As we look to build on our philanthropic efforts, we are trying to devote more effort to the Iron Phi program. An idea we are working on is having an alumni and actives basketball tournament at the chapter house. The winning team would be awarded a donation to their Iron Phi fund. Not Taking the Chapter House for Granted One of the biggest blessings we have at MO Alpha is our amazing chapter house. Because of its size and location near campus, it is accessible to both in-house and out-of-house members. Although we're disappointed that the chapter house doors are closed for the remainder of the semester due to the COVID-19 crisis, we made the most of our time there this school year. We frequently had basketball and volleyball games in the backyard. On Monday nights, we had all-chapter dinners. If weather permitted, as many as 30 brothers played knockout on the basketball court before dinner. Our brotherhood chairman organized watch parties for big fights, sporting events, and popular TV shows. We also pride ourselves on having one of the most active cheering sections at intramural sporting events. Every member of MO Alpha is part of a tight-knit family and we strongly believe that this is a big reason we have thrived. Middle: Several brothers serve as counselors at Camp Kesem to help children of cancer patients. Right:Alex Hackworth '20 receives the Mizzou 39 award, which is only given to 39 undergraduates every year. This is one of the most prestigious awards Mizzou offers, and we are extremely proud of Alex for his involvement in the chapter, on campus, and in society. Phi Delt is well represented on Tour Team, which is an organization that gives tours to prospective Mizzou students.
