THETA CHAPTER OF KAPPA KAPPA GAMMA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI | SPRING 2020 Theta News HOUSE AND ADVISORY BOARDS PREPARED TO HELP COLLEGIANS THROUGH COVID-19 CRISIS Chapter House Improvements Continue A year and a half has passed since Theta Chapter first occupied its beautifully renovated and enlarged home. It seems impossible that it's been that long since over 300 of you came to our House Warming in August of 2018. Many of you who could not attend expressed your pride in what Theta Chapter and its alumna volunteers accomplished. There have been so many of you who made this possible. Please see the donor list in this newsletter. It is never too late to add your name. The promised plaques are finally near production. Many unexpected responsibilities to our facility have slowed the process, and for that we apologize. Since the House Warming, the improvements have continued. There are new study desks and a projector in the chapter room. Outdoor furniture graces the new upper front deck. The bedrooms in the old part of the house have newly painted walls, ceilings, and closets, and new mattresses and bedroom lights were purchased. There are now new shutters on the first floor front windows. Shortly after the following report was written, the Mizzou campus community went through a profound change. Like colleges and universities everywhere, classes became virtual and living units closed. Theta Chapter's last day as a residence was March 20. Since that time, some women have returned for left-behind belongings, but now they are home or in a safe place continuing their virtual studies. The House and Advisory Boards are in touch with Chapter officers who send information updates to the members. Though some of the beautification projects may be delayed, maintenance and repairs will continue. The house will reopen when allowed, strong as ever. Thanks to years of sound stewardship, the chapter's financial situation is healthy. During these uncertain times, we have never been more thankful for the enduring sisterhood of Kappa Kappa Gamma. We have a few projects up our sleeve for this summer. The back courtyard will be updated with plantings and a new floor. It will be an even more beautiful and comfortable space for the chapter. As part of the project, the old fire escapes in the back will come down. In addition, the original first floor windows in the front will be repaired or replaced. Looking ahead, a summer 2021 project will probably mean the replacement of closet doors in the oldest section of the house. Also to come is a project to digitize the old composites. The House Board is looking for the best way to accomplish this. Once digitized, these images will be available to search and easily view. 512 Rollins – What's Next? Theta Chapter House Board The House Board can't express adequately our appreciation to Linda Orman, Theta Chapter's house director. Her resilience and support during the house closure was extraordinary. Thank you, Linda! We couldn't have done it without you. Linda has been Theta Chapter's house director for almost 27 years.
