(Continued on page 2) T he House Corporation Board (HCB) is continuing discussions on renovation plans for the chapter house at 900 Richmond Ave. After working with the architects to develop a feasibility study for an interior renovation addressing ADA requirements, kitchen renovations and amenities requested by chapter members, the HCB determined that further discussion and planning is required to ensure that the exterior of the chapter house maintains the lovely English Tudor style that is our history. Undertaking a project of this size requires all elements to be in line with expectations—interior and exterior. With this goal in mind, the board has taken a step back to allow time for review and to increase the reserve fund to cover the cost of any renovation. For the immediate future, the HCB will focus on maintenance issues. We are working with the chapter officers and advisors to review plans to address and prioritize projects for summer 2020. Items under discussion include new flooring in the upstairs hallways and lower level, additional security lighting at the back of the house, additional laundry facilities for the cleaning staff, work on the parking lot, additional paving at the back of the house, possible replacement of the TV room sectional, possible built-in furniture in a couple of the bedrooms and freshening accessories on the main floor. As a side note, the Alpha Chi Omega National Housing Corporation recently made a policy change regarding membership criteria for local housing corporations (LHCs). Under the new policy, the chapter will designate two chapter officers/members to serve as liaisons to Alpha Nu's House Corporation Board. In this role, the liaisons shall exercise their voice to represent the interests of the collegiate chapter but shall not vote on the business of the LHCs. Also, members of the LHCs are not allowed to serve as the chapter advisor, CRSB advisor, finance advisor, risk management advisor, facility operations advisor or house director for the chapter for which they serve on the board. These changes will require updates to the bylaws of all LHCs. We are waiting for National Headquarters to provide the model bylaws to follow for our changes. As the policy changes were effective immediately, all future meetings will follow these directives. The HCB and chapter members appreciate your support. If you have questions or are interested in joining the board, please let me know. If you are in Columbia, please stop by and visit the chapter house. LITB, Beverly Wood Nichols '75 House Corporation Board President kc5cents@aol.com Alpha Nu Chapter Addresses COVID-19 W e hope you and your families are healthy and prioritizing your health. Recent worldwide events have given way to many cancellations and rethinking our priorities as we are dealing with the spread of the COVID-19. We share your concerns about keeping our families safe and making certain that our senior family members have good support during this challenging time. After conversations with ACW National Headquarters, other Mizzou Greek chapters and in light of decisions made by the University's Office of Residential Life, Alpha Nu Chapter closed the chapter house as of 9 p.m. March 20. This decision was not made lightly but was necessary for the protection of our members and staff. Their safety and health is our chief concern. FAMILY, LEGACY, SISTERHOOD 98-Year-Old Grandmother Initiated F or Emily Liberio '17, the family connection in Alpha Chi Omega runs strong, and it just became stronger. Her grandmother, Jane Nelson, Iota Alpha '19 (Iota Alpha is the chapter for alumnae initiates), was initiated at 98 years old in November 2019. Jane joins Emily's mother, Julie Liberio, Sigma '86, and older sister, Lauren Liberio '15. "My grandma's initiation was so special and exciting," Emily said. "All my mom's friends were so excited to be part of another initiation and they tried to remember all the rituals from their own initiation." A 1943 graduate of the National College of Education with a bachelor's degree in education, Jane taught for many years while raising her family. She now lives in a retirement community in the Chicago suburb of Naperville. Jane is happy to be part of Alpha Chi Omega and join a sisterhood with her daughter and granddaughters. "I never knew it would be possible to join a sorority at this stage of my life," Jane said, "but when I heard about the post-graduate alumnae program, I was interested. I have met so many wonderful and loving sisters along this journey… sisters from Nationals, residents at Tabor Hills where I live and friends of my daughter and granddaughters. I have been so loved and supported and am proud to be a member of Alpha Chi Omega."
