Summer Foos Rally 2019 Recap L ast summer, Ernie Cormier '81 and his wife, Jan, invited several alumni to their amazing home in Milton Massachusetts, to celebrate the sixth annual international Summer Foos Rally! More than a dozen brothers and significant others attended last year's extraordinary event, some from as far away as Central America. e growing attendance at this jewel of a summer social will certainly continue as back stories come to light. In late breaking news, Ernie has just announced this year's Summer Foos Rally will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020. You can reach Ernie at ecormier@yahoo. com for further details and/or to get on the evite. Last year's Summer Foos Rally began with a full canopy setup poolside near the unbelievable pool house. Jim Melvin '85 brought his foosball table via rental van and attending brothers helped put it into the special canopied area with perfect sun/rain block and special lighting for late-night play. Kudos to the foos technician, Stephen Puchkoff '79, for perfectly balancing the table for quality play. e event was generously catered by the Cormiers with a full spread of delicious barbecue and matching accoutrements. Brothers chipped in a variety of refreshments, snacks, and munchies. With no dinner bell requirement, the table action began immediately when the first four foosers arrived on the scene. roughout the early afternoon, there was a continuous cavalcade of arriving Chapter stars from the '70s, '80s, and beyond, many with their significant others. Among the original first four at this red-carpet event was Jorge Garcia '79, traveling all the way from Panama to attend as a special overnight guest. It was such a great opportunity to reconnect with our Panamanian friend and brother. With centuries of experience, the foos quality was extraordinarily high, with nary a rusty surface exposed. Wall shots, pin shots, pull shots, and even E shots were all repeatedly dropping/slamming into the goal just as vigorously as they did at the ol' Epsilon. Remarkably, and some would say unexpectedly, it was Jorge who was the freshest talent on the table. e onlookers watched as he repeatedly, and mercilessly, scored goal after goal on most any accomplished defense brave enough to step up to the table, including Joe Gugliemino '83, Brian Dumont '81, and Dave Wilk '81. As the undisputed Man-Mile winner, Jorge was also perhaps the highest scoring fooser of the night. High-quality play rotated nicely through all players in attendance and continued all afternoon and well into the night. To cap off the night, Ernie and Jan lit their excellent fire pit near the rear gardens and surrounded it with a couple dozen lawn chairs. Among the many s'mores attempts, many colorful stories were shared from everyone's tenure at WPI and beyond. Capitalizing on the attendees present, Jim went through his scanned pledge book and tested the memories of the original questioners sitting at the fire pit, and for whom NDAs were expressly NOT in place. e Who, What, Where, When, and How questions and answers brought back some vivid memories and quite hilarious Chapter tales from the time, and some extrapolated all the way to the present. All in all, last year's Summer Foos Rally was an epic event in eta Chi's rich social history. Although the event is themed around foosball, it's much more like a great gathering of friends among our family of brothers. Many thanks to Ernie and Jan Cormier for opening their home and generously hosting this special event and continuing summer tradition! e brothers who attended the 2019 Summer Foos Rally are listed below, although others may have also been on the scene as well. Epsilon Chapter initiated 16 new members in fall 2019. Congratulations, brothers! WELCOME, NEW BROTHERS!
