Foothill High's baseball team, after losing its first Sac River League game against the Spartans on Tuesday, reestablished its dominating ways with a couple of big innings Friday to beat Red Bluff 11-5 and clinch the three-game series, 2-1. What started as a fairly fast paced pitching duel between the Spartans' Jaime Gonzales and the Cougars' Colton Landreth turned into a hitting spree in the top of the third inning at Red Bluff High School. Foothill (23-4, 8-1 SRL) scored six runs off seven hits and took a 6-0 lead to the bottom of the third. Red Bluff (15-11, 4-5 SRL) got one back in the third after Gonzales started the inning with a single to left field. What followed was much ado about obstruction as the umpires awarded Gonzales an extra base on the play to the chagrin of Foothill coach Todd Buck. The Spartans' Wyatt Houghtby knocked a single to center to put runners on first and third for the team in white and junior Jared Poore brought Gonzales across the plate with a grounder that would 5 p.m. MLB HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL San Diego CSNB Giants 1:05 p.m. Athletics Tampa Bay CSNC 10:40 a.m. Monday's games GOLF At Wilcox Oaks Los Molinos Mercy See HITS, page 2B 1 p.m. JV spotlight The Red Bluff Spartan JV baseball team escaped with a 12-9 win at Foothill on Friday to extend its unbeaten record to 23-0 (9-0 League). BOXING SACRAMENTO KINGS Red Bluff wins 2 at tourney Stern: Recommendation on team coming next week By DN Staff Report Red Bluff High School's softball team netted two wins in the Shasta Tournament Friday, beating Chico and Fort Bragg, 8-0 and 17-0, respectively. The Spartans dropped its opening game against Shasta, 60. Against Chico, Hailee Nicholls was the winning pitcher as she pitched five complete innings, gave up two hits and struck out five batters. The game was called after five innings because of an eight-run rule. Haley Harris was 2 for 3 with two runs batted in and a double. Samantha Jones went 2 for 2 with an RBI. Nicholls helped herself out with a homer and two RBIs off 1-for-3 batting. Brittany Clatty went 1 for 3 with an RBI and Cheyanne Grannes went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Nicholls was the winning pitcher against Fort Bragg in a game that was called after three and a half innings. Harris, Grannes, Nicholls, Tayler Zazueta and Emily Larzabal notched extra base hits in the game. The Spartans continue tournament play today at Shasta High School. NEW YORK (AP) — A recommendation on the Kings' sale and possible move to Seattle could be issued as soon as next week and a final decision made early next month, ending a process NBA Commissioner David Stern called the most ''wrenching'' of his career. The committee reviewing the bids by a Seattle group that has an agreement to buy the franchise and a Sacramento contingent that wants to keep it in California's capital city is expected to meet late next week and make its recommendation. A vote by the full NBA Board of Governors could then take place as soon as the week of May 6, with Stern indicating the owners will first decide on whether they would be willing to approve relocation. Stern also said the Sacramento bid is ''in the ballpark'' financially with the deal from a Seattle group headed by Chris Hansen, though the Maloof family disputed that in a letter to the advisory and finance committee. Obtained by The Associated Press, the Maloofs' letter dated April 17 said the Sacramento group originally matched the $525 million valuation for the franchise agreed to by Hansen, whose group includes Microsoft Chairman Steve Ballmer. Then last week, Hansen increased the valuation offer to $550 million. The Maloofs said the Sacramento group has asked not to enter into a binding agreement until the Seattle deal is terminated. The Maloofs said that would be a breach of contract and cost them the ''leverage to aggressively renegotiate terms in the event the existing agreement is terminated.'' ''Based on these factors ... we and our advisors see no reason to continue any dialogue with the Sacramento group or to give any further consideration to negotiating backup offers based on its latest non-binding proposal,'' the letter said. Stern said a decision will need to be made in time so 4 p.m. NBCSN — Washington at Montreal SOCCER 7:30 p.m. NBCSN — MLS, Kansas City at Los Angeles Iguacu, Brazil game 1, Milwaukee at Miami 6:30 p.m. TNT — Playoffs, first round, game 1, Houston at Oklahoma City NHL HOCKEY Noon NBC — New Jersey at N.Y.
