3 B eta Upsilon has had a very strong school year full of amazing accomplishments. Aer a record number of spring new members and high academic performance, Beta Upsilon was given back its charter at the 180th General Convention. is milestone represents the hard work of the Brothers and alumni. e chartering is a very proud and humble occasion for the entire fraternity, as Beta Upsilon is writing its own story of principled leadership, true brotherhood, community engagement, and undeniable success. BROTHERS CONTRIBUTE TO EACH OTHER'S ACADEMIC SUCCESS Brothers exhibited great academic achievement during the fall semester. The high GPA is the consolidation of all the brothers' hard work and effort put into their education. As the scholarship chairman, Christopher Kiel '22 implemented a better mentoring system that paired brothers who have taken a class before with brothers who need help in that class. The industrious efforts of the fraternity to maintain academic excellence really paid off. BETAS BELIEVE IN GIVING BACK Along with exceptional scholarship, Beta Upsilon has prioritized participation in community, campus, and philanthropy events. In early December, the Brothers tirelessly designed, created, and sold different styles of holiday ornaments to benefit the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center. After just one week, the Brothers raised more than $1,500 for this great cause. Beta Upsilon also participated in several intramural sports, such as basketball and soccer. This was a perfect opportunity to unite as a brotherhood and compete for excellence, a goal every Beta should pursue. MAKING A DIFFERENCE AT MIT Brothers have a strong presence in many leadership and extracurricular activities on MIT's campus, such as the solar car team, MIT Makerspace Project Manus, and the orchestra. Three brothers are serving leadership positions on the MIT Interfraternity Council. Nico Salinas '21 is the IFC president, Zach Rolfness '22 is the programming and public relations chairman, and I am the sexual misconduct prevention committee chairman. STAYING TRUE TO BETA'S CORE VALUES Overall, Beta Upsilon has seen great progress and hosted several successful events, such as friendly Brotherhood Olympics and a retreat to Bear Brook State Park. Beta Upsilon is truly an example of Beta Theta Pi's core values of cultivation of intellect, responsible conduct, mutual assistance, integrity, and trust.
