W e had a busy start to our spring semester here at the 808. We recruited 11 new members to join our freshman class. We celebrated the new members with a snow-themed sisterhood event in the beautiful and spacious Chapter Room. Speaking of beautiful and spacious, the chapter house construction is finished. We are enjoying everything our home has to offer and especially love our study areas, lounges, and being able to host chapter at the house! From February 7-9, I was joined by four executive board members at the Real Leadership Conference in Chicago, Illinois. This was the executive board's first National Gamma Phi Beta event. Being immersed in all things Gamma Phi, we met sisters in leadership positions and shared ideas to help kickstart our term and create more opportunities for our chapter. Special thanks to our Affiliated Housing Corporation for helping make our trip possible. This spring, we are thrilled to welcome an honorary alumnae member of Alpha Delta in Miranda Reynolds '20. Miranda played a key role communicating the needs of our members to the Little Dixie Construction Company during the Alpha Delta facility renovation. She truly became a sister during her time with us and we look forward to her initiation. Sisterhood events have become a staple for Gamma Phi since Elicia Malak '18 has taken over as sisterhood chairwoman. In February, nearly 100 sisters participated in Galentine's Day, which included a pillow-making activity where sisters created heart tie pillows for the Women's and Children's Hospital. Our most recent sisterhood event was Gammas in Pajamas on February 23. A surprise hypnotist made it a very entertaining event. We also enjoyed hosting our inaugural Late Night Dinner and Grilled Cheese with GPhiBs in the new house. Our sisters were beyond excited that so many students and friends came to the house. The entire chapter was in attendance. Our upperclassmen had a blast being the chefs and flipping grilled cheeses for our customers. The proceeds went to our beneficiaries: Girls on the Run and Hearts for Huntington's Disease. In IIKE, Abigail Turner '18 , Chapter President president.mizzougphi@gmail.com GAMMA PHI BETA 3 M arilyn Boling Lewis '66 has maintained her ΓΦΒ connections over the years. She first visited several Greek houses while visiting campus in high school and immediately decided she wanted to be a part of a sorority. During Recruitment Week she felt increasingly comfortable at 808 Richmond and knew it would give her a place to call home on a big campus. A few weeks after joining, she couldn't imagine being anywhere else! Marilyn cherishes her memories from the chapter house, recalling after-hours parties with skits, pizza, candlelights, and silly pictures. These memories and friendships made her remember the mantra, "Not for college days alone." After earning her degree in journalism and working in that field, Marilyn switched her craft to follow in her father's footsteps as a builder/ developer. She also obtained her real estate broker's license. With her father's assistance, she combined those three roles and built a large number of entry-level homes. While journalism trained her to listen and understand what people said, it was life at Alpha Delta Chapter that gave her leadership skills and confidence to take on large tasks and complete them. Business success convinced her she could do more, and she accepted a role on the Affiliated House Corporation Board, serving for five years, including one year as president. Her construction background was helpful as the board decided what upgrades and repairs they could manage at the house over the summer months. She always understood they were just barely keeping up. Marilyn was happy to contribute to It's Our House! The Campaign for 808 Richmond. "I've always been proud to be a Gamma Phi and I loved our house when I was in school. But when other sororities started making major investments and building new houses, it was time to step up and do something dramatic for Alpha Delta. There were some dedicated sisters who decided to 'go big' and not only add a wing but remodel the entire chapter house. They deserve a huge thank-you for tireless effort and great vision. The final result is amazing!" Marilyn says it was a proud moment to be at the ribbon cutting this fall. "Not only did the house look fabulous, but it was a special opportunity to reconnect with sisters from the '60s and bemoan the fact that we didn't have a wonderful deck, shelves for bath caddies in the bathrooms or a laundry that wasn't tucked away in a dark basement!" Marilyn and her husband, Larry, are a "Mizzou match." They dated during their junior and senior years. They have a daughter, Kim (husband Chris Yates), who graduated from MU and was president of Tri Delta; and a son, Jason, an ΣΑΕ who is also a "Mizzou match," married to Rebecca. Marilyn and Larry have three grandchildren. "Last summer we took them all on an Alaskan cruise to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, and they surprised us with nightly gifts, props for group photos, and even a couples photo session."
