THE DELTA NUS 7 e 2018 brotherhood retreat. Delta Nu Undergraduates Hold High Expectations Getting to Know Worthy Master Al Grentz '17 M y name is Al Grentz and I am the new Worthy Master of the Delta Nu Chapter for the year 2020. I am originally from Fort Collins, Colorado, and now live in Grand Forks. I am currently pursuing a degree in athletic training with a second major in kinesiology physical education and a coaching minor. I originally chose UND with the intent to study chemical engineering but suffered a concussion in the fall of my sophomore year, forcing me to take a semester off. While going through the rehabilitation process, I was introduced and, as a result, shifted my major to athletic training. My future plans include teaching physical education while pursuing a master's degree in athletic training. From there, my goal is to either work for a professional hockey or baseball team or, if that does not materialize, to teach at the University level. Additionally, I am currently a member of the UND varsity hockey team. As the practice goalie, I travel with the team on most away games to be on-call for potential injuries. For the past two months we have been ranked either first or second in the Nation. Go Sioux! State of the Chapter The state of the chapter has been improving academically. From the fall semester of 2018 to the spring semester of 2019, the chapter raised its GPA from 2.8 to 3.05, placing ATW in the top half of the IFC organizations. We dipped below 3.0 last semester. Our goal is to hold the best fraternity GPA on campus. For the last several months, the Chapter's Executive Committee has been working with Jerry Van Eeckhout '59 and ATW National to develop a comprehensive business plan, now in its final draft, to address house operations, finances, academics, recruitment and alumni relations. In January, members of our Executive Committee, certain Delta Nu Alumni volunteers worked together over a two-day period to formulate a realistic goal and plan to enhance recruitment. The plan has been approved by our Executive Committee and by ATW National, calls for an increase in membership by five new pledges during the Spring semester and an additional 10 to 15 new members next fall. A personal highlight for me was attending the ATW National Leadership Conference in January. At the leadership conference, I learned more about the Birkman Method (focusing on team building and leadership) and how to better communicate with chapter members and, also with the ATW National. Having served as the Treasurer and Vice President, and now as a Worthy Master, I have learned and developed life-long social skills, leadership, and academic discipline, all during this short three plus years at UND. Thank you, Loyal Alumni Delta Nu Alumni should know how excited the undergraduate chapter is for the new chapter house and how appreciative we are for the alumni effort to make this dream a reality. We eagerly look forward to a permanent place to meet, to study, to conduct rituals, to break bread, to enhance brotherhood, and to simply hang out. The new house will be spectacular—we can hardly wait. Delta Nu is looking forward to having a strong semester this spring, with continued emphasis on academics, recruitment and enhancing our brotherhood, and to meeting and personally thanking many of our alumni this fall when the doors of 3000 University Avenue open once again. In the same issue, editor Jim Melhouse '65 notes that Roger Sundahl '62 was also shown receiving the national ATW scholarship, Ken Kostka '66 was selected as the first Arrowman of Phi Beta Phi sorority, and the new member class contained a fine mixture of quality and quantity with 40 of the finest young men on campus.
