8 | r e d f c u.o r g I N O U R C O M M U N I T I E S For the Love of Baking: Soon after 13-year-old Charleigh Ann Catron of Murfreesboro launched her macaron business, she came to Redstone Federal Credit Union for startup cash. "My dad loaned me $100, and my mom took me to Redstone during the $400 new account promotion to open a checking and savings account. I used part of that money to pay my dad back and put the rest into the business,'' said the young entrepreneur. Experts say a successful entrepreneur must be motivated, creative and persuasive, and possess vision – all traits that accurately describe the seventh-grader, who first became interested in baking at age 10 after watching, and becoming obsessed with, the Food Network. Once the baking bug bit, she baked at every opportunity – whenever her mom or grandmother would open up their kitchens to her. She even hosted sleepovers that featured "cooking challenges." Charleigh Ann chose macarons, an intricate meringue-based confection that originated in France, because they are challenging to make, and the challenge intrigued her.
